Hi guys, I just recently purchased a Guidos Web. It came with the usual straps and stuff. I swapped over to static rope and an ascender for my main line. My question is, what are you guys using for foot rests. Other than the top of the stick, what do you use to go around the tree. Something compact and light I assume. I see the ameristep steps with the straps but can’t buy them anywhere due to a recall. Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks!!

Just purchased 3 Wild Edge steps over the summer. Have not hunted with them yet, but I have been up in a tree with them as the platform. So far I love them. Silenced them and came up with a simple way to carry themIMG_2156.jpgIMG_2157.jpg

Lol I wouldn't necessarily mind, whats not shown is I added some electrical tape around the ends to prevent the paracord from unwinding. I think if I was to do it again, I would maybe try stealth strips. Paracord is nice, but it adds bulk to them for sure.

I just received my steps today and can't wait to try them out. Did you wrap them to keep them from banging together during the walk in to the tree or are they loud in other hunting situations?

@ICU outdoors Wrapped to prevent clanking during tree ascent and setup primarily. I carry them in my pack on the walk to the stand, then once I get to the base of the tree, that's when I clip them on the beaner harness I have shown. Designed everything for only 1 trip up.

*Note: when using these steps on a very rough barked trees such as white oaks, be careful. On Saturday I was in a white oak and with enough movement on the steps, the bark underneath chipped off and caused one to loosen up under me. Wasn't going to slip or anything, but lost the rock solid feel.

@FrigidArrows -Thanks for the heads up! What rope are you using around the tree? The rope that came with my steps is large in diameter and strong but it's rough and makes it very noisy against the tree's bark.

I use what came with them. Shown in the picture. It makes a little noise but rope on a bark is not a sound that carries terribly in my opinion, like metal to metal, that’s a hunt killer for sure.

Nice paracord wrap! I might do that on the crosspiece only. It should stand up to the aider/knaider I plan on using. I've got some camoform to go on the legs.
