Srt is much faster than 1 sticking, but it is way better to prep your trees in advance with para cord. Trying to catch the right branch with a throwbag is a p.i.t.a. In the dark.

Srt is for ascending. It sounds like you are wanting to rappell down. If that’s all you want to do the only thing missing on your list is some cord for an autoblock.

I one stick/SRT/rappel.

My setup started with a RCH and a couple prusik loops and locking caribiners. I progressed quickly from just rappelling down to something else.

I found the standard tether one stick technique was a bit slow so I changed to a hybrid method. I put my stick on and hang my foot aider under it. I climb up and attach my tether as high as I can reach.

I drop down and hang from my tether and disconnect the stick. Then I switch the foot loop over to my rope for SRT. I ascend to the top of the rope and install my stick. Climb onto the stick and move the tether all the way up as far as I can reach. Then repeat.

I highly recommend a safeguard or grigri. My system now is a triblok, pulley and home made aider for my left foot and a safeguard on my waist point.

The advantage of being able to SRT is mobility on the tree. For example once set up I can leave my stuff overnight and SRT up in the dark. Also if your stick or step goes sideways on you then you can fix it easily.

I would say to anyone, no matter what climbing method you use, use a long tether and rappel down at night. This increases safety in my mind both for going up and down. AND since you have this long rope why not add the foot loop side to your bag, even if it’s just a spare prusik and a foot aider. Try it out and then you have it available if you need it.

Ive been thinking about doing this too out of my pre sets. I usually have hss lifelines in those trees and was pondering learning to rappel just for those situations. So from what im reading here, all I would need would be a figure 8 descender , autoblock, and make a short bridge for my saddle?

That would be a good way to start at the low end of complexity. I moved past that setup pretty quickly once I decided to SRT from time to time.

How do you connect your aider to your line as a foot ascender? Also is this aider just some webbing?
Thanks

So my aider is a piece of webbing, probably 6 yards long or so. I cut a piece of garden hose and put it in the middle for my foot. Then I tied the ends of the webbing together with a knot but found it a little too long in some situations so I tied another knot half way down. As an aider I just hang it in the bottom of my stick.

For SRT I initially used a prusik on the rope and a caribiner attached to the aider. This is ok an a pinch and is good to know but a mechanical ascender and a pulley are better.

The setup I have now is a Petzel tibloc and a caribiner on the rope. Then I hang my aider on that and add a small pulley that the slack end of my rope from my harness passes through. The process is to bend the knee and push the tibloc up the rope. Then pull down on the slack end of the rope that’s through the pulley which pulls your body up while at the same time standing on the aider.

If you are shopping buy yourself a petzel hand ascender if you can afford it and don’t mind the bulk or weight and use that instead of the tibloc.
