Anybody found a ratchet that will hold up? Ive been using the over center buckle but hate the weight of it.

If you get the ratchets to tight you only get 3-4 hunts out of them seems like.

I had the same problem. I bought a ratchet strap from strap works and while the strap was heavy duty, the ratchet was not. I have a habit of stepping on them and the bend out of shape. I had a smart strap from Lowes that had an orange strap on it which I cut off and added the strap from strap works. Its made out of cast aluminum and extremely durable so far.

Which OCB are you using? The one I'm using is 9 ounces I believe. I would think that would compare to any ratchet.

On a side note, besides the weight, how do you like the OCB?

I had the same problem. I had my ratchet with ameristeps give out and drop me off the tree. Obviously I didn't fall because I was in the saddle, but not having anything to put your feet on was pretty strange to say the least! I find myself using the cranford rope steps more and more. I didn't like the feeling of the ratchet giving way!

Im using the same OCB as red squirrel. It gets REALLY tight. Tight enough you cant set it if you try to get it to tight.

Id say its awful close to a pound.

Like an idiot, in the dark I tightened my ratchet buckle down too close to a limb coming off the trunk of the tree. Now I can't release the buckle! I think I'm going to have to cut and resew the strap! Idiot!

Is that the one you have? If it is, it is awesome for getting tight but super heavy. It is almost a pound and a half.

Ok. If you get the other one it doesn't get quite as tight every time, but you can get it just as tight. It works better on trees greater than 12 inches in diameter. It is less than half the weight of that one. I have both and use the black one for that reason.
