Removing plastic sleeve from ropes

This may be a silly question, but as a newb to saddle hunting I’ve got lots of basics to learn.

I recently received a new tether and lineman’s belt. They Both came with a rubberized plastic sleeve containing a tag with some info. I promptly removed them, as I do any shiny or bright tags on my hunting gear. It later occurred to me they my serve a function. Is there a function and if so should I apply a new sleeve, perhaps one not so bright and shiny?

Funny - when I got mine from Tethrd, I did the same thing and then had the same thought process. Used the ropes for a year without doing anything to them after removing them and didn’t have any problems going forward. Maybe someone else can weigh in on this..

Tethrd has a how to use your ropes vid. In the vid they don't have the sleeves on their linemans or tether ropes.

That’s right! I totally forgot about that - I did see and notice that...

I'm pretty sure the heat shrink tubing over the sewn part of the eye is to protect the threads. Tree bark will likely damage the thread in no time. The good thing is Arborist supply shops have heat shrink tube so you can replace it.

That would make good sense...

They can be coated with Liquid Tape instead of trying to get a large diameter shrink tube on. I’ve never had good luck with the Liquid Tape not hardening up if left to set for awhile, I get it in the tube form for less waste.
The stitches won’t zipper open if some are cut or worn through, in fact it’s a pain to remove them.

Funny, I just cut the sleeve off of a ratchet hitch a half hour ago and turned it into a normal sewn loop.

Yeah I couldn’t handle the white label and 4 inches of reflective-shiny plastic.

If the goal is to protect the veld, wouldn’t any covering serve the purpose, like gaffers tape or shrink tubing for large electrical wires?
