Has anyone replaced the stock steps with Dano's double step? I was wondering if there is a significant weight savings.

Probably not significant. Double steps are 3.5 ounces, the muddys are around 5 ounces. They have different bolt sizes also. Double steps are drilled for a 1/4 inch bolt. The muddys use a 5/16th bolt if I remember correctly.

If I remember correctly when I made my steps you saved 8 oz per stick putting in the double steps I made. @Ontariofarmer do you remember this to be correct?

Sounds like a lot of work. I was hoping to avoid drilling.

The muddy sticks do have a 5/16 bolt. I would think it would save a decent amount since most of the weight on these sticks is in the step assemblies

I looked back though my pictures and I do not. I sold them locally almost 3 years ago.

Here’s the ones I’m currently working on. I will clean these up drill them and check weights when I get back to working on them.

Muddy sticks extra weight cones from. The steps the stand offs the bolts the step mechanism the cam cleat the thick post and the heavy muddy rope

If I recall muddy sticks weigh over 2.6 pounds

I can make a double fixed step stick which is longer and drilled out at between 1.6 and 2 pounds
Depending what materials stand-off post thickness rope and versa button or cam cleat you use the weight will vary

To really lose weight change everything

Do you recall the weight savings going to my double steps from the stock Muddys? 4oz each step?

I cannot remember. I know the standoffs were almost 80 grams per standoff more than lone wolf standoffs
I know a carbon fibre cam cleat is half a muddy
And the steps do save significant weight but I would have to look at old posts to know

I think your steps were 3.5 oz and muddy steps were double

Standoff changes save a lot of weight. Dan o standoffs will save 100 g per stick I think. Lone wolf stand offs even more
