Rope for a Tether

I am looking to make a shorter, more compact tether. I bought the 12' tether from Aero Hunter with my Kestrel and I just find it to be longer than I need. I'd like to cut down on weight, so I am looking to make a 7' tether. I have several questions: 1) How long of a piece of rope should I buy to make a completed 7' tether after both the knots are tied? 2) I am also looking for rope recommendations. I looked into Samson Predator but the shipping from Wes Spur is pricey. I plan to use a Ropeman 1 on the tether. Would something like Sterling HTP Addiction 11mm from TreeStuff work just as well? https://www.treestuff.com/store/catalog.asp?item=15891 I
 
I’d like to keep the longer one in my stable just in case I ever find myself hunting larger trees.

I am using sterling htp in 9mm works great. Bought it from rwrope!!
 
Im in the same position, my teather is 4 seasons old and id like to replace it. Im looking at Snake Bite by Sterling, its 5.3lbs per 100'. Figured get two eye splices, one
on each end and call it good.
 
I recently bought some Predator from Wesspur, when I got my cart value over a certain threshold ($100 maybe?) shipping became free.
