Does anyone have a link to a how-to for making your own rope mods with rope instead of Amsteel? Or would I just be better off buying some already made amsteel rope mods?

Speaking of amsteel…for attaching climbing sticks is a full bury needed? Or would non-full bury be just fine?

From the OG.

Yes 7mm or 8mm accessory cords will work just fine. Tie an overhand on a bite and you’re good to go. Leave a couple of inches of tag end. 8ft total length before overhand is a good place to start.

I was about to chime in 8mm works great for my novix sticks. I use a figure 8 rather than an overhand knot. I have them at 8 ft after the figure 8.

I prefer amsteel over rope for less bulk. I make my own with 1/8" amsteel rope with a full bury.

is the full bury only for end loop security or does it work better with the added thickness and the bury making it less compressible?

first shot not knowing better, i would do the partial bury with the bury at least the minimum dictated by rope diameter (formula is around here somewhere)....partly because i hate doing full buries on long and thin cord

The full bury for sure helps with the line compressing... I use 3/16 full bury for my rope mods and 1/8 not fully buried for my prussic loops

There is a couple reasons full bury works better for me. First, is for compression. Without the full bury the amsteel will lose its shape and flatten some when under load. A full bury also increases the diameter of the rope giving it more surface area for the friction it needs behind the versa button and your "tie off" or for a pursik to cinch down on. Another benefit is the amsteel becomes much more rigid with a full bury making the rope easier to pass around the tree.
