SD back up above the ropeman

When I was fat dumb and happy, I backed up my SD setup after the ropeman. Now I'm wanting to relocate it. What's the recommended attach method to get your RCH biner attached to the friction device above a ropeman? A sling? Tie off some webbing or rope?

Also, is there a recommended spacing to maintain?

Ultimately I don't believe unsheathing or severing the rope will ever happen, but if the fix is super easy I don't want to chance it.

I may be misunderstanding your post, but a backup/autoblock prusik should generally be placed below the RM1; otherwise, it’s the RM1 that’s your backup. As far as spacing, when I do use a backup (I don’t often because of clutter) I put about 4-7” between main hitch and backup, so if I were to fall it would only be 4-7” and my hitches wouldn’t damage each other. I should add that part of the reason I don’t use a backup very often is that I don’t use a RM1 because I would feel like I’d have to back it up lol. I’ll sometimes throw a backup on if I want to adjust levels more quickly or if I don’t trust the tether’s girth-hitch enough. I hope that’s the kind of answer you wanted, but I’m sure someone will help more. Good luck!

Mine is like this. Tether to tree, RM1 (SD bridge), friction to RCH. In theory if the RM1 severed the tether I fall in that configuration.

Friction between tree and RM1 leaves me with rope to arrest fall if RM1 severs line.

Right, that’s exactly what I was describing. I think we’re on the same page.

So now that the friction knot and my RCH are going to be much further apart what is the recommended connection material for fall arrests?

Mmmmmm...hard to give recommendations for 2 reasons:
My setup is going to be inherently different than yours AND
I’m not a certified climbing instructor.
In a general sense, any correct diameter accessory cords and rope combination that are climbing rated and that you’ve inspected for wear are going to work. I doubt that with a good main hitch, you’ll even need the backup but I’m not one to begrudge someone’s safety and confidence. I really would talk to an arborist, climbing instructor, Wesspur or rope manufacturer, OR just buy the commercial tether and get a duplicate accessory cord for your backup.
BUT...
You absolutely have to do your homework. Don’t be shy about calling companies and getting recommendations. Wesspur has had saddle hunters and treestand hunters alike calling them for opinions on tree safety, and there are loads of climbing aces on here who can better recommend safety features at a deeper level.
