Anyone know of a zipper jacket or button up shirt (even a quarter or half zip pull over would work) that is camo and also really thin (and hopefully not all cotton)?

On days when I walk in with just my base layer up top, I'll put a down puffy jacket on up top once hanging (highly packable). But it is light gray and loud. I'd also like a highly packable thin jacket/button up/1/4 zip that I can put over it to quiet it down etc.

Carrying in a regular fleece would defeat my purpose because they don't pack small and I don't want anything hanging off my pack sometimes.

Budget is probably 60 bucks. Thanks!

I don't know how big you are but if an army woodland bdu shirt size large will fit overtop here is a $20 solution.

I have a Mossy Oak puffy jacket that I can roll up and put in a cargo pocket and it is extremely warm and I got it from Wal-Mart!

I got one of these a while back and it packed up small and it pretty thin for a puff jacket. Seems harder to find now but still available here and there.

I have a first lite merino top that sounds exactly like what your describing, 1/4 zip, I can’t remember the exact name but it packs super small, quiet, stretchy enough that it would
probably fit over your puffy if sized right, it was about $60 on sale

Thanks. I have the puffy (800 loft water resistant down I got on massive sale). Just looking for an over shirt.

Columbia makes a very thin fleece. I picked up one on sale last year and I’m going to the Columbia employee store this year and am going to get another. I wear it over my base layer walking in and will leave it on as additional base layer if it’s colder. It’s thin and packs down nicely but I end up wearing it. I have worn it over my down jacket on windy but not too terribly cold days. It’s black and if like to pick up a gray or olive green one but it sounds like you’re wanting camo. It’s a 1/4 zip but they make it in 1/2 and full zip too.

A gray or olive one would be great. I can camo it by pulling a Jackson Pollock on it with RIT dye. Thanks for the tip!

I do the exact strategy you are going for. I just rotate the outer layer depending on weather.

I think either a merino 1/4 zip or any 100 weight grid fleece for your situation. Maybe buy one size up to go over your puffy.

The fleece will be your lighter, more packable and breathable. The merino won’t stink and can handle a little wind and moisture better.

I usually end up with a Day One Camo fleece as my outer layer, but it is bulkier/less packable than what you are going for.

REI garage sale has 100 weight grid fleece in your price range and lower often.

Camofire.com has some Predator ultra lightweight jackets for $37.99 today. Size and camo are limited though.

One downside to wearing fleece as an outer layer, at least where I hunt, is those miserable little burrs we call beggars lice.
They are tiny little burrs that often come off the plant in a string of connected burrs. They are absolutely horrible to remove from certain fabrics and fleece is probably the worst of all. These burrs basically become part of the garment at times.
3 states that I've hunted have tons of beggars lice. It's pretty miserable when you sneak thru the woods in the dark and realize that your clothes are covered in the crap. I refuse to wear fleece as an outer layer strictly because of beggars lice.

Maybe something like this? $84 plus -30%

It is 13.9oz.

I’ve just stumbled upon this company so no personal experience.

I wear Sitka core heavyweight base layers and love them...their core heavyweight is 12.5oz and their core midweight 1/4 zip is 10oz and both can usually be found on sale following the holidays. I’ve paid 60 or less buying them ad hoc. The heavyweight is definitely thicker than a t-shirt though.

Sitka has light jackets with DWR coatings but out of your target Price point. Maybe pick up a deal on eBay if you identify one you like.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I found an ultralight button up shirt from Cabelas. It is the same fabric as some pants I have from them, so I know it will be what I want (thin and quiet). I should've thought of that earlier! Maybe this thread will help someone else though. Here's the shirt.

Again not at target price...but has DWR, compressible, 8.5oz....Kind of sounds like what you’re describing

Yeah, the poly-spandex material is just like the Sitka Core series. 90-10% for your Cabelas shirt vs 93-7% Sitka HWT and 96-4% Sitka LWT. Very quiet, good against the skin too if used that way.
