Simple but effective boat buckle mod

I love these things but the handles are so short that I always struggle getting them cammed over or unhooked. I believe someone may have covered this already, but if not, here you go. Adding a few inches of aluminum makes them a dream to work with

I think it would get in the way of the step. I sewn on one end so that double layer I can’t slide the ameristeps over and that’s like 3 inches. Then the buckle takes up another 3-4 inches. Seems like I always have a step as close as I can get on each side of the buckle.
I don’t have a problem caming them over. Just use the palm of my hand to lay it down. To pop it up I just pull up on the tag end of the strap that’s under it. What gives me fits is keeping the strap centered while caming over. If it hangs over one side a little bit, you won’t get that snap when it shuts all the way. Do I have the wrong webbing or what? Do y’all experience this?

I have the same problem. I find that thicker straps do it less.

It's a slippery slope to becoming a saddle hoarder. I Have a whole room full of platforms, ameristeps, climbing sticks, aiders, ropes, ropemans, carabiners, saddles etc. I could outfit a dozen friends if I could ever convince them to try it. I should sell some but I just can't bring myself to do it, just in case.....
