SitDrag to the MAX....More mods!!

When I quit wearing the trophyline leg straps a couple years ago I really felt less restricted. I'm not sure why that is.

I like your idea and you did some great work. I just don't like the plastic buckles! I know you mentioned they are the weak part of the system. I think the sit and drag is pretty safe, but I would not trust those buckles if it ever failed. Those buckles are prone to popping out under pressure.

I'm not nagging you about this. Just safety first and I don't trust plastic buckles!

No worries! I had actually thought about going with some Cobra buckles but price is an issue when using three of them. Really the main safety backup in my mods is the extra loops for each side of the bridge along with the waist belt. If the SD would happen to fail the 1" sling connected to biners on both sides should stop a fall. Honestly the main tether failing is probably the main thing to worry about. If all that fails and I hit the ground I guess it was just my time!

Just thinking more about this, how about using some metal cam buckles rather than plastic buckles? Same for the spurs. When I get a chance I'm going to try and mod my spurs like you did but with cam buckles like this.

Sure you could. I know they would be stronger but I really hate feeding straps through those buckles with cold hands  I made a sling with these buckles to test them and they held my full body weight (210lbs) with no problem. For the spikes I don't see them being an issue at all and they cinch down TIGHT. For me i'm OK with what I have but you can certainly expand on the idea and use what you feel would work best. Try it out and let me know if it works good i'll make another set for mine

That's what I love about this sight. All these ideas get my brain working on ways to improve what we do!

Yup! :D We are never satisfied!!!
So thinking more, you could use one of the little u hooks so you didn't have to thread the webbing every time, just like the old ameristeps did (except these are smaller buckles) ;)

The leg straps do hinder twisting in the Trophyline tree saddle.
Just wondering how two straps that have no weight on them hinder twisting?

Thanks,
Boswell

I think he means twisting your hip in the belt not pivoting with the bridge. DaveT showed doing that in his video to take certain shot angles using the top belt of the Evo.

That is what I was thinking too. I loosen the leg straps a bit at hunting height to keep things loose for "the move"

I'm just ready to get back in a tree with my sit drag I got a buck numbered for withdrawal from the gene pool...work...it always gets in the way of the really important things

Man I feel you there. Our season is over, I still have a doe tag for Ohio but doubt I can make it over to hunt. Looking like my season is done.

My season ended the first of January. I'm going through withdrawals.
But I got plenty of work to do in the woods and public land to check out before spring gets here and I have to do the garden and work in the fruit trees, and the chickens and rabbits too. Then the job. Yearly maintenance and upgrades around the house. Plus there's always small game and targets to put arrows into.
But back to the topic of cam buckles. I have a hard time working them in the cold too, but they're my "go to" fastener for just about everything from my minimal saddles' belts to my straps for platform to my new straps on my spurs. I cut a small angle at the end of the strap and then melt it pretty good or coat it with wax to help make it easier to thread in the buckle

Your stitches look awesome! I have a long ways to go with my sewing....it looks pretty poor compared to yours.

I like your mods! When i make mine i think i am going to use the metal buckle that is on my muddy harness. Very light weight. It doesnt "click" together. One end of the metal buckle you have to turn sideways and feed through the other end of the buckle and it stwist back to orginal shape to lock in. Does anybody what what that kind of buckle is called?

Thanks! I know exactly the buckle you are talking about but I'm not sure on the name. It would work good I think. I may end up putting a Cobra buckle on mine closer to season.

Hope youre ready for ROUND 2. Man im glad we live close to one another. All my gear should be here I would imagine before May. Cant wait to get it all together and start learning "the ropes".

If you're looking for the strongest buckle, you should go with a rigger, or rock climbing harness style buckle. While they aren't really "buckles", they are simple and the choice of manufacturers that really need strength.
