I ordered a sitdrag this morning. I received notice that it already shipped and that they upgraded the purchase to the Special Deal. Very nice gesture and very fast service. Just spreading the word. I wish everyone I dealt with in business was as fantastic.

I was really leaning toward the Kestrel but the Sitdrag is short money and way too many people like it. Worst case, it is a great way to drag a deer out.

So, slight hijack of my own thread. I think I am going with the Steps as a climbing system, combined with the RS aider. 11mm static climbing rope has been purchased for the tether and Linesman. Eye splice is planned for the tether and one end of the linesman. Ropeman for both. Tether to be used as part of the RS aider system. Webbing for the aider. I also have some 1/4 inch amsteel that will be used for a fixed bridge. It will be eye spliced to the sitdrag.

I am getting closer to a functional setup. I am still trying to figure out my platform, pouches and if I need to come up with a different pack.

Guy at Sit Drag is awesome. Really great folks to do business with!

Where did you buy this from? I'm thinking it might be a good idea to get this first and try for a couple months before diving into the Ketrel. I'm horrible with knots and tying things up, and think I would probably kill myself in a tree depending on my knowledge. lol

It just showed up today. I will be stealing all of G2's ideas to make the ultimate Sitdrag. My static climbing rope is here, and a bunch of amsteel. I'm going knotless, all splice :) Tether has been eye spliced and I plan to do lineman rope tonight. I am going to try to use a soft shackle as my lineman attachment. It would be super light and quiet; but it has to be convenient as well. I will make a fixed bridge out of amsteel with the eyes spliced. Pete

What rock climbing harness are you going with?

I'm reconsidering the sit-drag alternative to the kestrel these days...

Interesting thread. I'm a rookie. I don't understand what a soft shackle is. Can you or G2 explain?

I think the Black Diamond BOD.

I made my first one the other day out of 1/8 inch amsteel. 1/8 strength is approximately 2500 pounds. They are using these on sailboat instead of the traditional stainless steel shackles.

I have seen people zip tie the webbing to the harness. That way you can keep it on there nice and tight. Zip ties don't matter because they are just holding it in place. I'm not sure if the soft shackle would hold it tight enough.

I messed around with a soft shackle at first. The weight savings aren't a large enough tradeoff for the functionality of a climbing carabiner. The juice wasn't worth the squeeze. I quickly went back to a carabiner.

Disregard this. I thought you were talking about attaching your webbing to the rock harness.

That's what I thought he meant also and I thought it was a good idea. If you use a soft shackle and run it through the gear loops and around the waist band and the webbing it might make it a little more comfortable in the event of a fall? If the gear loops held enough to keep the shackle in place then you wouldn't be hanging from just the loop in the rear. Maybe?

This is pretty much what I was thinking, yes. The thought being that this way the linemans belt won't ride up on me if there is a fall and the loand will be shared with the harness.

I don't have the climbing harness yet so I am using my old full body harness, but still the same concept. I plan to use these to also hold the strap/loop in place on the rock climbing harness; almost like a belt loop. This will not be the final version of the soft shackle because I found another way to make it that seems simpler and provides even more rope strength. I will use it as shown on one side of the lineman (the permanent side) and use a biner on the other side. Less metal to bang and lighter. Notice the pretty splice I made for the lineman's belt. That was a bitch. I also did one for the tether, which is really nice because it is much easier to slide up and down the tree.

I am having way too much fun trying to assemble my perfect set up :)
