Guys I have addressed this issue before but am going to mention it again. I use rare earth magnets - I have one on my pull up rope and the other ones I put on bow , pack etc. When I climb I don't want to be attached to anything so I leave the item on the ground with opposing magnet and when in the tree I lower my pull up rope with the other magnet. Opposites attract and up she comes. Disconnect and pull anything else up. When I get down I will wear my pack or platform and lower the bow. Working very well so far.
 
No offense at all, but I think that is wicked funny. My mind just started racing and I was giggling at my desk.
Thinking of a mini MRI machine and you just suck your stuff up....:p

Not having any ropes or straps to tangle when you have branches and weird trees definitely makes the climb safer.
 
What size ? Source?

I need some small ones so I can sew a patch to my damn gloves. I don’t even know why I take them up the tree anymore. I drop them within an hour every time

The magnets can lift some pretty impressive weights and you don't want to get your fingers between them ouch! I can haul a pack with platform inside and saw and other stuff and the magnets handle it easily. I got mine from Richard Mumford Climbing Innovations) they were part of mag throw bag kit. They spark when they come together if that tells you something.
 
I just tested at my weight bench and 20lbs if you were to lift smoothly would be about the max. I mainly use this to lift my platform and then my bow so I am dealing with some pretty light loads. These measure 4" from eye to eye when set is connected together and they are 1" in diameter.

Idon't know how ......but i accidently had a magnetic level near a phone i used to have and the screen got screwed up
 
Does the magnet make a loud snap when it connects with the bow?

I got a keychain thingie that separates. When those magnets come together it’s pretty loud. Definitely disqualifies it for bringing to the woods and putting a rangefinder or something on it.

It must be me but the deer I hunt aren't that bothered by the sounds I make - must have them trained well! LOL !
 
I bought some rare earth magnets a few years ago for another application. They are no larger than the size of a nickel and they are crazy strong. It's almost impossible to pull one straight off when stuck to metal. I've had to slide them sideways across the surface until I can get my fingers under the edge.
I never thought about carrying one in the woods.
And yes, keep it away from your compass.
