So two of the properties I hunt on are owned by the same land owner and he lets my hunting partner and I hunt for free in exchange for coyote control as he has livestock. Well a landscaper left the gate open and 6 of his cattle got out. We managed to round up 4 of them but two of them weren't having it and proceeded to run around a 2000 acre estate suburb much to amusement of the local homeowners. This went on for almost 4 weeks until one day I get a call from the rancher and he says alright, I've had enough. Come shoot it.
So my hunting partner and I load up and meet him approximately where the last two were spotted. We find them in a field and I dropped one with a shot to the head, quick and painless. As we only had a couple hours daylight we had to work quickly to process the cow. Let me tell you, processing a cow is similar to processing a deer only in that there's cutting and you try to keep the hair off the meat, but damn is there so much more than a deer. First time I ever processed a cow.
So I guess you could say, my first kill of the season was a cow.
