So much faster!!!

I used my hand climber this morning. Worked pretty good. Had to adjust the belt once on the way up. I just hung to the side and pulled the climber up to me and tightened it. Just like bongo does in his video. This was on a line too.

are you guys tying the platform off to you as well?
Just a small cord to the carabiner on your tether. If I can’t reach the carabiner on my tether I’m probably already on my way to the ground.

Tried this for the first time last night with my LW hand climber seat. Its going to take some practice but has potential. First: I need to find a better way of securing my feet to the stand when climbing the tree. I had some gear ties set up and it was OK, but thinking about getting some bike pedal foot straps and seeing if that is better. Second: I noticed that you must have a very short bridge or at least an adjustable bridge so you can shorten it as much as possible. THis allows you to actually work the tethr up as you climb and helps keep you away from the tree. Third: Adjusting while going up the tree is a pain, hope it gets easier with practice. Fourth: I need to try the plastic tube around the LW cable. It sticks and folds on the tree way to much and makes it harder to climb. Fifth: Not sure Im sold on how much the platform moves when set. Maybe I will get used to it. Wish there was an easy way to make it rock solid at the top.

Bottom line, this could be a really good option. Very nice as the climber seat weighs about nothing. Going to keep trying to perfect it.

It moves for sure. You might be better just moving the platform with you feet when you want to shift around the tree. Still need to play around with it.

All good observations.

I use a bungee for my feet but other methods work just as well. My only advice is to use a method that you can "kick out" of if you need to. Don't lock yourself to the platform, in case you fall.

I think Bongo makes it work with his regular bridge length but I have been wondering what I will do. I presently use the loop on my RC harness.

Are you using a ropeman or duck on your tether? If using a prusic knot this method is brutal. If using an ascender, then there are techniques you can develop with practice.

I use a Ropeman on my tethr and bridge. THey are a must for sure. Good point on making sure you dont lock your feet completely in. This is what i ordered from amazon:

How long did you cut that 1" tubing you used to cover the LW track/cable? Have you noticed any issues with it being to long or short depending on certain diameter trees?

Velcro might get noisy if you have to adjust the straps....

I think I used 1 ft of tubing, but no more than 2 ft. Either way I think 1 ft would work fine.

I put a 1 foot piece on and if I was doing it again I would go longer. Even a small to medium size tree still causes belt to catch on bark some. Better than nothing but still not good.

Not sure if 2 feet is too long so maybe 18" is the safe zone.

I thought I would like this method more than I have. I already owned the LWHC so no expense on my part. It just doesn't climb as easy as I think it should and I think I prefer either the ring of steps or a solid platform (Primal plywood for me) more.

If the only choice was to carry sticks (assuming public land) I'd say this is worth using and getting better at. But the WE steps with Kn/Sw are light and compact enough and the platform options are better (IMHO).

I may still try it here or there and change my mind. I could see rifle season benefits too going higher in the tree with this method.

So, on a whim, since i do not like the strap on steps. I took the bottom off my Old Man climber stand, used it and my linemans to climb a tree. I was able to climb to 25' and tether off in under 2 minutes. 5 minutes from ground to completely set up and ready to hunt. The bottom part of the stand weighs about 11 pounds which is heavier than id like but way quieter and faster. I have a hang on ultralight i may convert.
Check out my "DIY climbing aid" post. You should love it. It's a lot lighter than a old man

Thats 20’ up a 4” tree don’t think my sticks or WE steps can do this. It was the only tree there.

I use this method with a fixed bridge length without a problem. The main benefit of this method is not having a climbing method and a platform to carry. Just climb up and you are ready. It does have limitations such as trees with limbs and not being rock solid as a platform. I don’t find much problem with it though. I would like to try using wild edge steps and 5 step wider but I’m a platform guy so I would have to buy a predator too

I just got set up to try this, have 5 stepps, 5 step aider and the predator. High hopes to ditch the sticks. Tried it with one stepp already, attaching the stepp above the head is not fun. Gotta get the stepp set tight, maybe 4 step aider and an extra stepp would be better. Try it out in the morning.
