IMG_1302.JPG I found a video for making soft shackles from paracord.
Super easy and cheap. Perfect for low weight quiet attachments.

The Amsteel ones are STRONG. I have castration bands on some to keep them closed when not under a load.

Hammockers have been using the paracord versions to hang tarps.

The negative with these is they aren't easy on/off one handed in the dark up a tree.

I agree with your analysis of the "Negative".

I wouldn't use a soft shackle for any application that needed to be connected/disconnected frequently. If you only need to connect/disconnect every now and again, it would be a good option.

I've used them to lash things to packs and bags but like you said, things that don't get removed a lot.
Knife Sheaths, compass, thermos (I can pour it without removing it).
