So I have never seen this topic come up on here but what does everyone do for maintenance on their spurs? This I guess pertains to keep them sharp. So I have seen some sharpening sets out there but I think they were solely for buckinghams. I have climbrites and for the life of me can't find any info on the manufacturers recommendation for sharpening. What does everyone else do and how often do you sharpen your spurs?

Use a small hand held bastard file and only sharpen the bottom of the spur. You only want to remove the little burrs or inconsistencies. I sharpen mine every 5 seasons and I climb with them every single hunt.

By bottom of the spur you talking the tip section??

Your file doesn't need to contact the "outside" of the spur. Make sense?

Yeah makes sense. Your really just looking to take the burrs off. Thanks huck

So I saw some gaffs in the pawn store....Are there different sizes or for the most part are they OSFM?

Do you spur back down...or rapell down..?

Also notice huck said every five seasons. The buckingham kits have a guide just for their spurs. They won't need sharpening for a long time as long as you don't walk around on the ground much. The ground will dull them more than wood.
