I am going to teach my grand nieces to climb SRT / RADS. The oldest one was excited when I mentioned it. I was going to start with a rope over a swingset. I bought a kids harness. They don't have a larger tree in their yard but their neighbor does. Has anyone taught youngsters to climb trees? A quick search showed this site. It looks unsafe compared to what I want to do.

I was never really sure about this method of climbing and I am very interested in it from a weight in gear. I am just not sure how many trees I can get up in, for the areas I hunt. Alot of tall straight pines here with no limbs for a ways up. Anyway, I know my kids would love this climbing method and think it is one of the safest for them. Thanks for sharing this! I may have to look into the gear needed!

All you need is a branch of any size that will hold the girth hitch up there. I hunt out of 50-60 ft pines regularly. There are some lower branches that are dead about 2 inch in diameter that I use. The strength is from the girth hitch around the actual tree just like your tether.

Very Cool! And makes sense. Thanks. I will research the gear needed.
