Tether question

I've noticed that some of you guys use a prusik loop on your tether and then use a carabiner to connect the prusik loop to your saddle. I want to do the same with my onehair seat. I have 11mm climbing rope for a tether and some 8mm rope to use for a prusik loop. does this sound safe? Wouldn't the prusik loop be the weakest link. What is the breaking strength of an 8mm prusik loop compared to the 11mm rope? Thanks

I use 8mm eye to eye prusik on 10mm rope not sure of breaking strength but 8mm is plenty strong enough to hang from

Buy climbing grade rope and dont worry about it. 8mm accessory cord tied into a pusik on 11mm tether is plenty for what we do assaddle hunters.

What ropes are you using?
I am liking a 9mm accessory cord Prusik on my 11mm Bluewater Assault Static line.
8mm Accessory cord is more than strong enough for a prusik. But you need to know what 8mm rope you have. And then you'll find out if it is compatible with your tether rope. Prusiks work easier on static rope.

I've always thought the same thing. What good does a 10,000,000,000 lb tether, or a Saddle for that purpose, if your prussic is a lightweight.

Thanks for the feedback! Riverhunter, i found out yesterday that a Ropeman 1 can do the same thing as a prusik loop will do. Gonna have to get a couple of them. Justsomedude, i have the bluewater static 11mm rope and some 8mm Bluewater rope that i bought today. an arborist where i bought it told me what to get. He also recommended a friction hitch/auto-block. Anybody use these? Glad you guys are ok with using a prusik loops. thx, again

I use my rappel rope as my tether and tie a xt friction hitch hook up and hang from that. The nice thing about the xt hitch is it can also be use as your back up when rappelling with an atc device since it can be released under load but still grabs tight. I also tie a marlin spike hitch with a biner act as a stopper knot while I'm hunting

Good stuff. The Bluewater is stiff so keep working the knots to get them to settle in.

When you tie your Prusik, start with 4’ or slightly less. I just tied prusiks with 9mm to use on Bluewater 11mm and 4’ was just right.
