Tether rope and prusik rope recommendations

I figure it has got to be cheaper to buy the rope and then cut it to length needed instead of buying a new setup anytime you don't trust one of your ropes. Then just burn the ends and/or heat shrink some rope end caps. So what ropes/diameter do ya'll recommend for tether and a smaller rope for making prusik knot with to attach to the tether?

You're in luck! Eastern Woods Outdoors has free shipping right now with code "BFRIDAY23"

I buy 11' of 8mm to make my tethers. Tie a figure 8 on a bight on one end and a stopper know (I like the barrel knot) on the other.

For hitch cord my current favorite is the 5.5mm Beal Kevlar Cordette. Buy 4' and you can either make it a loop or double eye hitch cord.

Another option is 6mm TRC. Same thing, 4'

Good catch, I was on the Easton Wood Outdoors before and got loss in the options but I didn't even notice the Beal Kevlar Cordette, I think I'll go with that one. Crazy that we use a 8' tether but the prusik wrapped on it can be half that length! The knots look interesting, definitely have to try them out.

My wife wants to get the Mad Rock (she doesn't quite trust prusik knot right now) which means she would need a 9mm tether, the Canyon Elite looks like a good option for her. The Teufelberger Resc Tech 8mm does look nice and lighter weight, so she might have to get her own rope, lol.

Under normal condition how long should the ropes last? I'm on year three, about 50 sits, with my sterling oplux tether and lineman rope. Nothing looks frayed or worn, just worried it might be time to replace them

I wouldn't spend the money on the mad rock just for a tether. If she's going to use the madrock I'd get 40' of rope and a quick link and have her rappel down. I placed an order for canyon elite last week for an extra climbing rope. :)

The only note, for the Beal 5.5, is that it is "slippery" and triple-fisherman's knots are recommended. Beal 5.5 is currently my favorite on the 8mm RescTech or Oplux though!
