Ok so I decided to make a Sitdrag saddle. I want to make a tree tether. I was going to buy some 11mm static and some 7mm for the prusik knot. How much should I buy of both? Also, what knot should I use to make the loop end? I want to be able to wrap around larger trees. Thanks.

I use around 12ft total of 10mm static for use with a ropeman 1 instead of a prusik and have a figure 8 on each end.

Tie a figure 8 or splice an eye loop. Go out to the woods and pick out the largest tree you plan to climb. Wrapped it around and through the loop like normal, then you have the length. Thats how we all do it, no special length works for all.

Agree with kenn. The size of the tree's you hunt will be the biggest determining factor. Typically after knots my tether ends up being around 6 foot. I've had a couple tree's this year that it was just long enough.

I also use an ascender so I can't help you with prussic cord. You would probably want to start with 10-12 foot of rope, although until you know exactly how much you need, I always recommend picking up extra because it's easier to cut some off than create another one. You want to tie a figure 8 on a bight on the end.

What 10mm rope are you using? I'm currently using Yale Bandit 11mm with prusik and was hoping to cut weight by going to 10mm and ropeman.

I believe it's metolious monster 10mm static, I like it

The 7mm New England accessory cord from REI works pretty good with Yale Bandit. But make sure what ever you get it's polyester or arborist specific tech cordage or eye-2-eye prusik. I'm currently using 10mm b-line on my setup but I've run into issues as it gets older with it holding so you might consider using 8mm. The 10mm how ever holds amazing on static due to the fact that it doesn't deform very much if at all when the prusik squeezes it. If you are going to go the prusik route what knots where you planning on using?

Edit: I forgot, no matter what you use for prusik make sure it's at least 2mm smaller than the rope you are using it on. If you are using arborist prusiks you may get away with 1mm smaller but you may need to keep adding wraps until it holds.
