Phase 3 Preacher stand (far left). I call it The Pulpit...cause it's just a little something to lean on. I really like the smaller whale tail. Not totally finished as I need to cut the webbing and paint it.

I'm still suggesting you try making one without a whale tail. You'd be surprised how nice it is just sitting on the solid base. I'll post pics of mine eventually.

I will have to give that a try! :) How wide is your seat?

I'll have to measure. I think 15 or 16 inches. I went as small as I could without the strap starting to pinch my hips. I also went in a different direction and I have both the straps coming up and hooking into a bridge like I would use on my kestrel or any other saddle.

so its 16" wide...how deep is the seat?

Man I was sitting in The Pulpit this morning and my Zen was really grooving....Of course I wanted to test my manuverability and I was rolling side to side.....turning...etc. Just felt so good to actually enjoy my sit without back fatigue and leg pinch. I am shooting a recurve this year and it is 60" long....thats the only downside...limited to shots. If I keep this traditional thing going I hope to have a shorter bow next year.

Im sure its awesome but man that wood. I went to a saddle because of my bad back. Treestands were killing me And i could be wrong but sitting straight down on ( let me word this right lol) on a hard wood surface. Would have my lower back in a fit?
Tree-stands put me on a stretcher after 4-5 hour sit

Ever think about making one out of carbon fiber plate? Expensive but super strong and lightweight.
Guido's web uses an aluminum plate.

I to have back problems and have the same problems with conventional tree stands. For me, the pulpit puts me sitting at an angle that somehow relieves that stress and I am much more comfortable. I am not sitting on the seat as much as I am on the edge of the back.

I actually have one sitting in my garage. It's on the project list (which as most of the guys around here know by now is very long, I know, where's the video).

Has anyone tried to make a carbon fibre preacher seat yet?
