I was wanting some information on saddle hunting. My first question is I have lower back issues and it’s hard to sit in a stand all day without my back killing me. I wondering if anyone on here has back issues. If so is it better on your back. My other question is i was thinking about getting a tethered phantom. How’s your experience been with it. Thank you for the help.

I have some back issues. Way more comfortable than sitting in a stand. I’m new to the game also and only have tried a phantom. I have no issues but others with more experience and knowledge might have a better idea.

I have some back issues but not really lower back. All I ever hear from others is how much better saddles are on their backs. I know I have no problems with my back in a saddle.

I don’t have the phantom. If you’re concerned about lower back issues though you might consider one of the 2 piece saddles as opposed to the sling style 1 piece models, because you can adjust the upper half where you need it on your back. There’s more than this out there but two that come to mind are the Tree Hopper Recon saddle and John Eberharts ESS saddle that just came out. The Recon is at a really nice price point. I have the H2 saddle now and I love it. I’ll be trying a Recon out before too long when I can afford to blow $150 again.

Ive had low back issues on and off for a long time. I've had a good streak for several years now but it's always in the back of my mind wondering if/when it will return.
With saddles, I think one of the benefits for a stiff low back is I can do pelvic rocks while leaning. Its minimal movement from the aspect of being busted and it also keeps the low back loose.
In cold weather, it warms me up a little bit, too.
And pelvic tilts also can have a big influence on how a saddle rides on me which effects comfort.
Whether someone has back issues or not, there are good reasons to do some pelvic tilts during the day.

After reading and looking around I would definitely look at the TX5, Latitude Method and Cruzr XC. No real order but they all seem like the design would help back support being a little bigger than the phantom.
I just had a 6 hour sit in a phantom with no issues. I would be extremely tight and sore in a stand.

If you use a backband it really helps my back. I use a tethrd recliner as my backband but you can make or own

Come to the light, the JX3 tree saddle light..............
Don't be afraid, you will sit from dark to dark very comfortably, be able to snooze when you want, no dreaded hip pinch, no back aches.
No platform required, only a ROS, no knee pads required, built in pack frame for carrying all your needs.

Tethrd tends to be a minimalist type of saddle for those who lean IMHO. I sold my phantom and bought a CRUZR XC. MUCH more comfortable. I would recommend it highly

Good luck.

Let me help you out here but not in the way you may have anticipated.I am a man who suffered from chronic back pain from a young age until i was 62.My back pain is now gone except for an occasional relapse due to the permanent damage from decades of misalignment. And every last person i know who has acted on the recommendation i am about to give you has gotten long term relief. And its cheap to boot.Go to NUCCA.ORG and read about what the real cause/source is of your back pain, and then click on the link to practitioners.Find one in your area and make an appointment. You will be so glad you did.No painful manipulations,no surgery,,,,you will thank me.

I've been thinking about abandoning my phantom for the xc, as well, but my question to you is how do you walk to your spots? Do you wear the saddle? I wear my phantom in and walk around 1-2 miles in. Usually, the phantom is easy to walk in/out with - is the xc easy to walk around with it on?

I'm 6'4 210lbs and 36 years old. I fractured my back (L5) when I was 19 (don't let your kids play college sports) and I've had issues ever since then (to this day, even). I run the phantom and do not have any lower back issues with it whatsoever. There is some hip pinch, but you can adjust accordingly.

Yes I put my XC on at the truck and my knee pads. I dont really feel the saddle or pads walking in.

I am tall and fairly thin with a lower back that tends to be easily irritated and saddle hunting is so much better for me than traditional stands. The one thing I would highly recommend for your low back in general, but also to get the most comfort in saddle hunting, would be to work on strengthening your core. If your stabilizer muscles and core get stronger it helps lessen back issues and also makes sitting and moving in your saddle a comfortable, easy experience. Good luck

I'm also new to saddle hunting, lower back issues and a blown knee. I went with the trophyline covert saddle . I liked the idea of a saddle that gives more options and adjustability up your back and down under the thighs. Trophyline nailed it with the Covert. As a guy that normally stands 95% of the time in a stand because it hurts too much to transition from sit to stand, only a couple hunts so far, but i can tell you, I've never been more comfortable in a tree.
