tye into a prusik

if I were to tye directly into a prusik instead of using a carabiner...what knot would I use?

Do you mean omitting the biner that connects your bridge with your tether?
I often wondered about this too; I'm following this one!

My guess would be to use a double/triple fisherman knot -- but you'd have to tie your prusik each time you 'tether up' rather than leaving it hitched to your tether. To do this, you'd have to twist up your prusik then feed the tag end of your tether through this, followed up with a stopper knot for good measure. The challenge that stops me from doing this is doing all of these steps at the top of my sticks. I take my time setting up (smoothly) but I like to get set up without much wasted time (rapidly). For me, all actions at the top of my sticks are the most risky during the whole hunt. A linemans belt is a no-brainer, obviously.

Not good for a bridge. Your bridge won't rotate freely. What's the application?

My 'go to' is an 'overhand on a bight retrace'

was just trying to figure a way to eliminate carabiner... so I went to the r&w rope and it has sterling 9mm and 7mm accessory cord. I was thinking of getting 10' of the 9mm for my tether and 5' of the 7mm for the prusik...your thoughts..

The alternative to tying your prusik while up the tree, negates the benefits of getting rid of the biner in the first place if you have a fixed bridge on your saddle. If you don't have a fixed bridge, then you still will likely have at least one carabineer. Make sense?

I actually considered using one of those eye hoop thingies in lieu of a biner on my bridge, but I'd still have to tie the prusik in the tree...

I do agree that without the metal, you reduce the ability to rotate freely. It is a trade off.

I use more like 14' for my tether I think. I do a 'grab knot' at the top and leave a tail, the figure 8 that's at the tree, and overhand on a bight at the tail end to back up clip (another great reason to have a carabiner).

You don't want to eliminate convenience AND safety just to drop a few ounces and be more quiet.

I don't think its worth it. And if you want to use 9mm rope I'd pick up some of the 9mm climbing rope rather than accessory cord.

I would learn to tie a figure 8 on bight if I was going to do this. But since I now use a ropeman no longer an option. I guess one cold use a kong duck and pass their bridge through it and then use figure 8 on bight to secure off side?

What's the fun if you use all this 'safety' stuff?!
Kidding of course.

My current tether is 11mm assault rope with a Ropeman 1 and a long-looped prusik tied above it!
My logic is the Ropeman gives me ease of use, the prusik gives me 100% confidence in the Ropeman...

I hope the prusik doesn't ever get loaded.
