Urban Hunting/Scouting

Lee and the Seek One crew successfully made any wood lot in the Metro Atlanta area into a hunting club with absurd lease prices. Leases within 1-2 hours of Atlanta area hitting $1k plus per hunter..

Glad I stay public.
Wow! That is a bit sad, we have been fortunate that many hunters have not caught on to Urban Archery in my area as well as the homeowners have not thought to charge us anything. Couple of properties were apposed to us hunting until the owners came down with tick related illnesses. Now they are disappointed when we don't kill lol.

I never considered urban hunting until I heard the podcast episode on it. I just moved two months ago, and the property backs up to a golf course. Guess who has deer coming through his yard everyday. ;) I'm definitely going to put my Mantis to use in the backyard. Can't wait to try it out!

Yeah... I'm pretty excited to try some urban hunting this year. This is my backyard! Who'da thunk it?

After reading through this thread a couple of times I'll chime in. We're fortunate enough around Baltimore to have some good access to some rather large State park/reservoir wood lots that are bow only. Two hardest things to deal with are you're usually limited as to where to park and weekend numbers. So, I park where we have to and if there's a "backside" entrance I ride my bike to it and walk in from there. Other's push to me so I'm already in full sniper mode by daylight. Makes for an easy day! Numbers are managed daily but the Monday-Thursday pressure is almost non-existent. Therefore, hunting the larger parcels during the week almost feels like it's your own game preserve.

Another point of note. I've been guilty of "sleeping in" a few times and have just almost jogged in. No misprint there. When you get to sneakin', they get to runnin'! Go all in and get up in a hurry. They're so used to human scent/noise that if you're looking for freezer meat you may still get a chance and maybe a quick workout too.

So... I really figured my suburban hunting would essentially be filling the freezer with a few does, then I would spend the rest of my season trying to get on a buck on public land. Turns out, however, that there are a few nice ones in my neck of the woods. Check out this crazy tall 8. The other 8s I posted have only shown up in the middle of the night. This guy was in legal shooting light!!! Now I'm REALLY excited. It would easily be the biggest buck of my life.IMG_0004 (2).JPGEdit: That's not saying much, considering that I've only killed a small basket rack 6 and a couple fork horns. o_O

IMG_0031 (3).JPG IMG_0009 (3).JPG IMG_0011 (2).JPG The big boy's out of velvet, but the smaller guys are not. Do the more dominant bucks in an area tend to lose their velvet earlier from rubbing trees? Do older deer lose it sooner than younger ones? I just thought it was interesting.

If you get bored hunting you can always shoot some arrows in your target. Lol. Best of luck to you. Definitely a nice buck!

The best part was that my wife and kids were on the back deck and got to watch the bucks approach two does and twin fawns that were in the yard. They walked off into the woods together. All the while, my 2 year old little girl was saying, "Big buck. I like it." over and over. :)
