Very intrigued but which saddle?

I am very intrigued by the idea of saddle hunting and really want to give it a try. Hoping some of you gentlemen can offer some advice on which saddle to purchase. I am 6-1 285 lbs and 52 years old. I currently hunt from pre-hung millenium stands or occasionally from a XOP climber. so, with that I am looking for recommendations before I purchase my first saddle. Specifically Krestal vs Tethrd. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

I have a Tethrd Mantis but the consensus is you won’t go wrong with either. What sort of things are important to you?

The Mantis comes in sizes so the comfort issue will be taken care of. To me the entire thing about saddle hunting is it's huge advantages over anything other form of conventional stand. A saddle will make a huge difference in your hunting, especially with you being a large framed man as you can use the tree trunk as a partial blocker of your body silhouette so as not to get picked.

I'm 5'11 190lbs with a 32" waist which put me squarely in the medium size according to Tethrd's chart. The saddle comfort is fine for me, I do have to slide it down so that I can sit in it more comfortably. So I wonder if a larger size would be as comfortable but require less adjusting of the saddle position.

Sizing up seems to be a safe bet with saddles.

I am new to this style of hunting as well. I’m 6’2” and 220 and 53 years old. So we are close to the same specs. I used the Maps app to find other saddle hunters near me. I let up with one of the guys and he had all kinds of saddles. We spent the day at his place and he let me try out his gear. You may want to check into local SH near you for the same purpose. There is also a hybrid style saddle out ther. The old name was Guido’s Web. The owner retired and someone else started it up again with modifications. The new company is JX3 Outdoors. Looks like a great setup for all day hunts.

Thanks to everyone that replied! I’m going to give saddle hunting a try! Will report back when I get set up. Thanks again!

I just decided to try it out and instead of spending the large sum I went with a sit drag and rock climbing harness to see how I like it.

I couldn’t decide between Kestrel or Mantis, so I asked my daughter. She liked Greg’s videos, and said buy the Mantis. Toss the dice like I did, you’ll be happy with either one.

I did the same and I love it great comfort but you need to remember that the sit drag is not meant for hanging high. But I tried to break mine 1 foot off the ground and darn near hurt my entire core so I’m calling it good plus I hook a 2nd tether to my rock harness.

X2 I do the same. I'm actually surprised I ride it high on my hips rather than sit in it more often than not.
