WE Stepps Carry Method

So I have made about half a dozen climbs with my Aero Kite and WE Stepps. It is certainly getting much easier and I am more comfortable. One area I seem to be missing something in terms of technique or equipment is carrying my Stepps. I don't use any kind of aider to climb, just the Stepps. How are people carrying and storing them? I have been using the bag they came in, it works ok-ish. Pulling them out is relatively easy, putting them back is another story. Either way it isn't efficient.

Ideas with pictures would be super appreciated.

Wow, that is an awesome setup @kyler1945. And it sounds like you stuff the whole bag in your pack for the trip out to the tree?

Yup. Even with just the hole in the bottom you could achieve the same thing. But if you can get someone to sew the fleece on there, you get a quieter bag and the drawstring. But it isn’t necessary. I wouldn’t use them without this modification, it makes it that much easier to deal with in the tree

Anyway you could take measurements and post a drawing of some sorts? Please and thank you

Buy a yard of fleece. measure how far up the bag you want to go from the bottom, then add 5" for the length. you can measure your bag around for the width, add 1". Fold one inch of the length over on itself, and sew a seam - this is your tube for the drawstring. Install draw cord. Fold 1/2" or so of width under itself, and sew along one side of the zipper - make sure to sew on the actual fabric of the zipper, not just the bag material. This will make it stronger. Wrap fleece around bag, repeat on other side of zipper. Done.

The problem I found with the bag as is ,is that the stepps wanted to tip out because the zipper zipped to far down the bag. I put a wrap of thread up about 6 inches from the bottom. That keeps the stepps from falling out when the ropes are out. I S coil the ropes and stuff them down the middle of the stepps. I don't even have to un zip to deploy the stepps I just pull them from the top and the ropes come right out. I unzip the bag to put them in when I come down and just leave the ropes hanging until I'm on the ground. Then I S fold them up and stuff them in the bag.

I went this route before cutting a hole in the bottom of the bag. Now the ropes run out the bottom, and the zipper doesn't ride down.

That's funny, because I cut a hole in the bottom of my bag before I saw a post on here about the thread on the zipper. Once I did that I didn't need the hole in the bottom, so I sewed it closed again.

I stack mine and then strap to the bottom of my pack for long hikes. For shorter hikes I stack them and then use my tether to figure 8 loop the steps and then use as a shoulder strap

Weird how this post just came up. I'm actually about to attempt to make a kydex holster for my steps tonight. It'll be my first attempt at kydex so we'll see. I like the wild edge bag but it isn't conducive to my setup.

I'm very curious to see how this comes out.

It came out ok for my first kydex project. It will definitely work once my Chicago bolts get here today and I finish the assembly. Working with kydex is fun and when more sheets get here I'm gonna give it another shot to try to perfect my design. I'm definately going to make some holsters. Sick of paying 100 bucks for holsters that aren't perfect for me.
