This will be the first year and I’m looking to see which kind I need to buy. I like the idea of the Jx3 hybrid but it’s kinda heavy and bulky. What are y’all thoughts and what do y’all recommend. I’m 5/10 and 180lbs. I mainly hunt public and walk a pretty good ways to most spots. I’m looking to quarter deer in the woods and pack them out also.

I don't have a hybrid but I think you would be able to pack out a deer using it as a pack with some mods. The other option I guess is to get a pack bag and different saddle.

Where are you located? You could maybe meet up with someone to try a couple different saddles. Also keep in mind that saddle companies have a back log on orders so it could be a few months to get one.

The Hybrid is just under 10 pounds.
Both my backpacks are just under 5 pounds. So your net gain is only 5 pounds with the Hybrid.

I am new to saddle hunting, so take my opinion with a large grain of salt. Like, rock salt...

I had also been looking at the JX3 Hybrid, but ultimately ordered the Mantis for a couple of reasons.

First, it seemed to me that if you are sitting in the JX3 and a shot opportunity comes, you will have to shoot from the sitting position. You can't just stand up like in the competitor saddles. This was a deal breaker for me by itself.

Second, I have a neighbor that owns the Mantis, and have had a good long chance to test it out and look it over thoroughly to know exactly what I am buying. I am still waiting for my Mantis and Predator to ship, but I am not worrying for three months that I might not like it. If I had ordered the JX3, I would be biting my nails every day for a few months not knowing if being locked down in a sitting position would be something I could live with or not.

If I received my JX3 in July or August and not liked it, I would have to return it and then order another backordered saddle like the Mantis, which would then arrive in October or November. On top of that, I can use whatever pack I want with the Mantis, whether it is a small day pack or a full sized ruck, depending on my hunting situation. Just my 2 cents...

I've never actually sat in the JX3 though, so maybe I am completely wrong.

This just is not true. There is nothing stopping you from straightening your legs and standing up/leaning into the Hybrid. You may want to leave the shoulder straps on, but I am not even sure that is necessary. If you want to stand up on a platform like a tree stand situation, you would 100% need the shoulder straps still on. But it is very doable.

I shoot from sitting if I can every time in my lock on so I don’t mind at all sitting and shooting

You can for sure stand and shoot with a saddle like the jx3, but it’s downside is for sure that you are limited with what you can carry on your back. I like to have options when it comes to packs. Sometimes I hunt 100 yards from a road and sometimes I am three miles back with a pack capable of handling a quartered deer. For that reason alone I like the lightest weight saddle I can get away with. I wouldn’t mind having a jx3 for those all day rut hunts tho. Having options in everything is always ideal right?

@flinginairos You can pack a lot of weight in the frame of the JX3, I am sure a quartered deer. But I agree with the backpack being an issue, that you can also pack in the frame, but if you need to pack a deer out, I assume the best would be to attach the backpack to outside of hybrid? Not really sure

Could probably make it work in a pinch. That was one thing I always struggled with with the Guidos I couldn't use it as a stand alone pack and had to carry a backpack with my camera gear in it. Hopefully the jx3 will work better than that. It was always a struggle lol

No you’re right a pack for camera gear is set an issue. I was thinking just normal gear.
