What methods do you use to strap in the tree??

I tried a few different ways to tie in and finally settled on a set of 2 military cargo straps that are easy to adjust, quiet and super strong..I use one strap around the tree and the other looped into my harness with a carabiner..

I use the strap that came with the tree saddle. In my trees that are pre set I have a spike screwed in just above eye height that keeps the strap from sliding down. That tip was given to me by John Eberhart.

I use 2 rock climbing slings from REI and a repel ring arround the tree. I place them in the oposite direction of each other so the ring will not rotate around the tree and make noise when I move. Then I connect a locking carabiner to the end of both slings. This way I have a double safe system around the tree. Then I attach a climbing belay device called a Gri-Gri to the locking carabiner. This is a self locking belay device that you just pull on the tail end to take up your slack or pull the lever to get more slack. They sell them at REI. Then i tie about a 6 foot length of static line to a carabiner that attaches to my boatswain's chair lifting straps and runs through the Gri-Gri. I also tie a knot in the tail end of the static line to make sure it wont slip through if I'm letting out slack and not paying attention.

I also run a second line straight from the carabiner attached to the tree to a safety harness. Therefore the only part of the system that is not backed up is the locking carabiner attached to the tree straps.

Yea, I'd like to see a pic too if possible.

I'll get a pic up when I get back home. I'm on the east coast for business for the next 2 weeks so it will be a little while.

Maybe it is just the camera angle, but that looks like a massive carabiner you got there! And shiny!

Oooooo, I like shiny! Yes it is shiny, should probably replace that. But the size is standard.

LOL. I know they make the regular size ones in black.

I have one, just not as convenient. So far I've only shot one deer out of my saddle. A doe with my .303 at about 30 yds. We hunt in Algonquin Park, Ontario, Canada. A group of 12 + 1 cook. 9 days in a lodge, all food, dog and permits = $440 cdn. But that's a discussion for another thread.

Sounds like a lot of game to keep you busy!

It's all there, unfortunately I can only make time for deer. Luckily bear overlaps with deer. I hope to add turkey closer to home soon.
