Where do get trustworthy, accurate out-of-state info?

Hey guys, I’m from Mississippi, but not one of our “outlaw” hunters.. where do you guys look to get accurate information about hunting when looking at other states?

I know here in Mississippi we have a wildlife fisheries and parks website with our states guidelines, but it still leaves a good bit that’s vague. The last thing I want to do is save up some coin, take time off work and away from family just to end up going way off and getting in trouble or getting a ticket or something because of “I didn’t know”.

Our National Forests have a website that’s fairly detailed, but you can seem to look at 3 different pages of info and get 3 different versions of the rules... like I said, I’m no outlaw and always wanna be on the right side of the law.

With that said, I know there’s no one page for every thing, but just wondering what process y’all go through to be sure you’re covered when going to a new state.

Thanks!!

I use OnX maps. It is a paid subscription but it gives property owner information and uses a gps on my phone. It seems fairly accurate.

There are similar apps too.

Most states seem to do a good job of encapsulating rules/regs into a PDF doc you can keep on your phone. If you still have questions call the governing agency.

I use Gaia GPS for public land locations and it has been very helpful for sure.

I think @Hailey_Phillips is asking how to navigate regulations, not maps.

Yes that’s really more of what I was asking, but I’m happy to take any suggestions given ha.

That’s really more of my concern, is being in the woods and doing something wrong, or not having certain licenses needed, etc. I was reading a post on Facebook the other day where someone asked how much is a nonresident tag in Ohio, amount $X.xx or amount $Z.zz, and it was about 40/40 people agreed on those two prices, and about 20% of people were giving way different answers. I’m not sure the guy ever got for-sure answer hahaha.

Not saying I will do my homework on Facebook, just trying to find good solid recommendations people have used to get info. Like I said in original post, we have a wildlife fisheries and parks website(do all states have such a thing?), and the national forest site(obviously nation wide) and that’s about all I know of for here.

Sorry. Not certain how I missed that regulation aspect. Wisconsin has a really good website for licenses. The regulations are hard to find this year as they're shifting to an app. They used to print some really great pamphlets for regs. Now it is streamlined and very basic.
