So i picked up some 7mm accessory cord to make an aider for my stick from, and to mess around a bit with just the standard rope mod technique.

I couldn't get the rope to stay just right in my available time for my liking(7mm is probably too small). It got me thinking, if i already have a section of Oplux and prusik cord i use for my lineman/tether, which is a life support system, why couldn't i apply it to my climbing stick as a metal-less attachment method.

Initial tests at ground level it seemed to hold fairly well, i got on the stick and bounced my 250lb body on it and it seemed to hold pretty decent.

Any criticism is welcome, i want to hear about any risks i may not be aware of, but i present the PruStick attachment method.Screenshot_20200803-140524.pngScreenshot_20200803-140538.png

I like it. I would shorten up the length leading to the prussic. And beware that if the tree is against the knot (may e an issue on smaller diameter trees) it might work as a tender and allow the rope to slide through.

Good point

I don’t see it as bad/unsafe necessarily, but a daisy chain Amsteel is easier, faster, lighter, more compact
Oh i agree and most likely won't see this through to fruition, just an idea i was kicking around. Im still gonna stick with my amsteel daisy

The rope is fed through the stick, in a hole that was for the rope of a cam cleat.

I'm just messing around with figuring a way to rope mod but not have to tie knots at each setting

Interesting idea. I was just messing around with the rope mod but I too only had 7mm not 8mm. I am definitely goin to try this out.

Interesting idea. My main concern might be chafing of the rope against the metal where it comes out of the hole in the stick.

Yea, i could see it as a problem spot, but that is how the muddy rope went through as well when the stick had cam cleats. Metal on rope is never a good mix though, i plan to try a full climb on it this weekend, give it a real test

You desecrated a muddy post with a cam cleat for this? Was the cam cleat not working for you?

I am on the other side. I love the cam cleat on my muddy pros. Just not the weight. I am looking at possibly getting DanO steps and brackets just so I can keep using the cam cleats.

I did read that the recent muddy pros have had issue with their cam cleats though. Mine are post recall and pre buyout. No issues with mine.

I never had full trust in the ropes not slipping through or out of the cams, and the fiddle factor of tying a hitch in at every stick set. I decided i didnt like them and took them off pretty quickly

Im pretty satisfied with my amsteel daisy chain, its easy to slip the chain loops over the button and pull it to set.

We all have to be confident with our setups. Looks like you got yourself a winner.
