Live from the tree 2017 version

Got permission to hunt 20 acres across the road from me a few days ago. Literally across the road from my house.

Not a ton of sign but it’s a picked beanfield. The thick area in the middle is a transition zone if immature trees and Hawthorne. I picked one of the only trees available and was setup about 18ft right in the edge of the field. Thankfully background cover was good and the 5 deer I saw never suspected a thing.

Man, id love to have some ag to hunt. It’s all fescue and bermuda grass fields around here. The effectiveness of herbicides have made them food deserts for deer. All the food is in the cover, which means there’s not much.

Selfie with my big 8 pointer shot last night from my tree saddle. Had to do a 2 hour track this morning. It was single lung shot, but I found him. I love bow hunting public land in NJ in the snow. Hey @redsquirrel, upgrade my previous 8 to this bigger 8 for team 1. Haha!

Rifle hunt this afternoon in VA. Got set up around 14:00, Some residual dogs running too close for a productive sit. Heard movement at last light but never saw anything. Fresh scrapes open in a core area between bedding and wheat field. 35 degrees, Had perfect wind, overcast with a crisp steady 2-5 mph wind. Dogs have them locked up tight. Hard to get a crack this late in our season.

I'm getting out in a tree tomorrow. I'm stuck somewhere in between feeling like bowhunting and gun hunting. It's going to be in the low 20's so I decided I'll take my crossbow out. I have only hunted with it once and since @hambone shot his big one with one last night it kinda gave me the itch.
