That's awesome!! Can't wait to take my babes hunting. Interesting how that 10 year old little girl that normally shows limited enthusiasm about hunting has more " saddle sense" than 95 percent of this forum. Proud of you kid...... Team Trophyline!!!!!!!!!

@g2outdoors awesome!
6 does with in range so far tonight. Freezer is full so I am horn hunting. Beautiful evening to be out.

Spent the afternoon in the snow. I love it. My favorite time to be out. Shot a doe. Good blood trail but have to go in the morning to pull her out. Went over on another property and owner is out for the night.

They'll let me on to get it but I have to let them know beforehand.

Yesterday was the last day of our 6 day shotgun season. I planned to sit all day because it was the first day I've been feeling healthy and not working in a month. I hiked a little over a mile back to my spot on an island. 50 yards from my stand I had to cross through the water. Whoops, it's higher than it's ever been when I go there and I'm in over my boots! Not good because its 30 degrees out. I got to my stand and took all the wet stuff off and threw on my dry wool socks. I tried to dump all the water out of my boots but every time I dumped more pooled up lol. At that point I threw the all day sit idea out the window and my goal was to sit a couple hours since I went through all that work. I made it a couple hours and my ice block feet finally got their feeling back when I got to the truck. Lesson learned! Went home and warmed up and hit a different spot in the afternoon in the snow. I saw 3 does but no bucks (bucks only during shotgun season since I was carrying my slug gun).

LOL! Happened to me last night trying to help Abby get out of the kayak on our island. Luckily it was only 45 degrees and I made it ok.

Yea my other socks and pants were frozen when I got down lol.

They all got a pass. My freezer is full and I didn't feel like messing with one way back in the swamp tonight.

Well, its 9:30 pm and I just got in from the woods. This evening I got a shot at a small (100") 8 pt. just as it was getting dark. He was close enough for what should have been an easy shot but I executed the shot poorly. I had to shoot from my weak side but that's no excuse. I thought I missed. In the low light I couldn't see the arrow and the loud crack I heard made my think I hit a tree.
The buck ran about 50 yards and stood there for a bit. With the 4" of snow it was possible to see the bucks silhouette. He started walking, circling around behind me. He stayed 40 or 50 yards from me but I noticed he was limping as he walked. When he got directly behind me he laid down. After a few minutes he got up and moved and I couldn't see him anymore. I waited a little while then slipped out as quietly as I could.
When I got back to the house I told my wife that I was going to wait an hour or so and go see if I could find him. She said she was a little hungry so we went to get a quick bite.
When we got home, I hopped on the tractor and headed back to the woods to look for him. I found half of my arrow and sparse blood trail. I walked over to where he laid down and found a bloody bed then another bed about 8 feet away. From that bed I followed tracks but there was no more blood. The tracks lead to the field south of the woods then it looks like he trotted across the field. The location of the blood in the bed confirmed he was hit in the left front leg.
It's disappointing to loose a deer. I'll bet it's been 15 years or more since I've hit a deer and not put a tag on it. Bummer....
