Saturday I took off walking with my rifle just still hunting in the snow. Wouldn’t you know it I spotted three feeding just as I reached the farthest point I was going to walk (nearly 2.5 miles from the vehicle). They were 392 yards across the valley even farther from the truck! Lol. I had my pack frame on my back and wasted no time setting up for a shot. I dropped the biggest one at 392 at 1pm. I ended up quartering her out and walked all the way back no problem. I got back to the vehicle at 4pm. A MILLION times easier than dragging her and I had no work to do when I got back (skinning/quartering) If you guys have never tried that method I would highly suggest it if legal in your area. Dragging a deer very far in these hills isn’t much fun.
Hillside where the deer were
Loaded up. Meat+gun/clothes was exactly 50lbs. Pretty easy load to pack with a good frame.
