Can you build a 1.3 pound stick

They just came in today actually lone wolf was waiting on a shipment I’m taking them to work with me tomorrow night I have one stick ready for testing just have to bolt the standoffs on I’m going to try to test them out Monday
It will be great to see. I hope you can make a 1.3 pound stick, and still be safe. . I can get to 1.4 pounds but I am not sure I feel confident in the product.

Right on man! Can’t wait to see a pic of an assembled stick!

The last few days has been a dry hole here, let get with the program, lol!
Well, I am waiting for new parts to try new ideas.
What I know. What I spent trying to make a 1.3 pound stick I could have bought Dan's sticks if I can get them to Canada
I may still buy his sticks because I can afford to.
I can make a 1.5 pound stick... It is a reasonable thing to do if you get the @ImThere steps and already have lone wolf parts. That is a very cost effective way to make a light stick. Muddy parts will weigh more.
Cost $5 for 1/16 aluminium tube 6061 drilled out
Lone wolf buttons removed from other sticks
Lone wolf standoffs removed from other sticks.
1/4 amsteel... $10 or fee if you already have them
Machined steps ... $25

$40 per stick if you have existing parts.... If not Dan's sticks will be cost effective .

I will be using the sticks I have made and will be making more modification when I get time and parts and when I see what others are doing.
I will buy Dan's sticks too later if I can get them to Canada. Making them is cost effect for those that have the parts and time.

I am looking forward to ideas that are soon forth coming from others. too. It is a fun process trying to build a light stick.
I may reduce or increase the size of the holes in the tube after I use them for a while. To reduce the holes I would obviously buy new tubes.

I think I will replace the steel bolts with titanium which will reduce weight to about 1.45 pounds. When I get new steps from ImThere I will reduce the bolt size from 5/16 to 1/4 which will reduce weight a bit more. I may try 5 mm amsteel as well.
I may increase the weight slightly and use cam cleats. Stealth strips add over 25 g

My disclaimer. I am not in any way suggesting these are safe sticks. Use at your own risk. Even manufactured commercial sticks fail. So DIY sticks made lighter probably have a greater probability of failure
I will be testing these daily this fall

I drilled it with a drill press. You can buy it from on line metals in the USA. Search square one inch 6061 T6 aluminium. Drill carefully so your holes are centred. If you get near an edge you will weaken it

I thinks others are trying methods of not drilling. We will see what they come up with.

Just curious about the 6061 t6. I was comparing it to 7075 t6 and noticed there was quite a difference in strength. Is there a weight/ price difference that would make this unsuitable?

7075 is great if you can find it. It is stronger and would be my preference.
Do not use 6063

Just a disclaimer.
All stick modifications involve risk to the user
I am willing to take that but am not recommending any one else take it.
I am trying to make a lighter stick suited to my weight and build. Most sticks are made to hold 300 pounds.

My bad! I thought I found a supplier, but when I clicked on it, it was not available.

One stick finished tested it out a little this morning it’s rock solid finished weight will be 1.3 lbs with 6ft of Amsteel I have some bolts to trim off lone wolf hardware is to long and some corners to round off

That looks great, super pumped about this, that is T6061 aluminum with what size wall? Keep up the great work Kong!

I tested them out with him this morning I really like the wider step design. Next we’re going to test one bolt and a rivet per step to keep the steps from twisting this will eliminate the need to slot the backside of the step.

Could one drill holes to perferated the 1/16 tube to further lighten the stick? Where did you buy the steps, thats the only part I'm not sure how to make or purchase. Thanks for the help
