    Ok guys....SUV or Crew Cab?

VTBow. I'm up in Northern VT. Couple of my thoughts....I've got an extended cab Tundra with a capper. Extended cab is getting quite small for my 3 kids (10, 8, 6). I wish I would have got the Crew Cab. I'd rather sleep in my cab of my truck (or SUV/Van) than the back of my truck. I...

If you were a deer, what is the LAST state you would want to live in

Any place the Benoit's used to hunt. It's one thing to run past 15 hunters and onto the next property, or being chased by dogs into barrage of bullets, but imagine being quietly tracked down by the likes of Lane "Slammer" Benoit. You can run but you can't hide!

    The Official Ground Hunting Thread

I run a leafy suit. I built my own ghille, but it's just to cumbersome. If you want to ambush deer you need to be able to see things out of the corners of your eyes and with a ghille suit you need to much material on the side of your house to break up your shoulder outline. It might work...

    The Official Ground Hunting Thread

Killed all my deer from the ground. Couple of things: Hunting from the ground is hard for "trophy" hunters. You see a deer you better shoot that deer, because they are going to bust you one way or another. This year I shot an 8 pt straight through the brisket on the ground, right as he...

    Hunting Canoe

I bought it from ****'s for about $400. Then a week later someone was selling the same one on marketplace, so I bought that one too.

    Hunting Canoe

I use a two person kyack, after taking a dip in a canoe with my kid in cold water. Super stable. If the banks are steep I will sit in the front and put my gear in the back. If the bank is flat I sit in the back, and can push shimmy my self up the bank. Deer don't see to mind the ride out...

    Mobile hunting or Presets

I have never shot a buck buck on a spot I sat more than than once. Doe yes, as long as you don’t freak them out, they seem to come back. I used to be all mobile saddle hunter hung ho, got burnt out because it is a lot more work than most think, and I just did all my scouting on the go. If I’m...

Gun for my son(6 year old).

You can buy (in normal times) reduced recoil rounds for 7mm/08. My 100lb 9 year old was using a single shot 7mm/08 this year. He didn’t shoot a deer with that gun, but did with a muzzleloader. I ordered him a left hand 350 legend with 18” barrel. Felt recoil is supposed to be pretty low and...

Some experienced based input about public deer hunting from those that hunt mostly or always public land

What are you looking for? Big buck or freezer meat? What makes me move in from an area is if there is maybe another guy/guys that hunt like me. If the land has deer, they will be leaving sign. Where are they? To your question how would I know I didn’t / did want to hunt an area until I...

What happened to the guy with “failed” oplux?

I disagree. The rope is built for it, your body is not. If your rope has a MBS of say 5000 lbs and you tie a knot that decreases the MBS by 50% well your rope is now rated at 2500lbs Here is the thing....If you experience a fall that generated 2500 lb /ft of force....you aren’t walking away...

    For those 2 panel-ers

    @ImThere 12lbs....I’ll bring my LW.

    Stands, platforms etc.

I’m finally glad some one brings this up. If you mention this on the forums or Facebook, some of these fan boys lose their mind. I got bit by the saddle bug hard about 5 years ago and I ran it hard for 3 years and then this year I went on a trip to Ohio and ran it hard for a week. I hunt all...

    For those 2 panel-ers

In the past I used a ROS or the top steps of my Hawk Sticks. This year I started a platform and that help tremendously with fidgiting. But I'm still not really comfortable... So my brain is spinning on how to make a comfortable saddle for leaning (big wide padded back band) and have a...

    For those 2 panel-ers

I'm waiting on mine. But this notch really got me thinking. I climb comm towers for work and I'll run an Elk River in the summer and a DBI Sala in the Winter. Both have seats, the ER is sewn in place and the DBI is adjustable and removable. For some back ground, I've been in an...

    Thinking about a lever action

The problem is one you run the action on a BLR you won't want to shoot anything else ever again. Magazine fed. Lightweight. Short barrel. Quick cycling. Available in most long range calibers from 243 to 3006. Also probably the fastest gun for follow up shots if you are left handed...

    Hanging from belay device?

I've got a Skylotec Lory Pro. It attaches to the tether in the place of your rope grab device. And you can just rapel down when your done. The Lory Pro has a couple of nice features: It acts like a rope grab. It can decend rope. It is a progress capture, so you can easily accend rope...

Saddle safety redundancy systems (what do you do?)

Use the carabineer that you have to attach your lineman's belt.

Saddle safety redundancy systems (what do you do?)

Yes. This only backs up your "Rope Grab" device on your tether. Say you had a hand on your prussik or ropeman and you slipped...you might go for a ride. An Alpine butterfly tied on your tether attached to your belt loop would prevent. If your tether breaks you hit the ground. Likely your...

    Bridge questions

I like a rope bridge. I have a sewn prussik on one side too. If I want to adjust to get perfect position I move the prussik up. Also if you want to rapel down it helps to have a shorter bridge so that your rapel device is in your face instead of above your head.
