Live from the tree 2017 version

Live from the tree 2017 version

I let them be. I don't eat coyote. It always amazes me when I see one while I'm in the tree. I expect them to smell me but I haven't had one bust me yet... deer yes but not a coyote. I like how they are always hunting...they are always looking for mice.

Ever get scared while in the woods alone in the dark?

Wisconsin gun opener several years back was seriously foggy. I was hunting land owned by a friend's brother in law. We had marked the trail to the stand I would use with tape weeks before. Good thing because I would never have found my way in the pre Dawn dark and fog. So we split up at the...

Live from the tree 2017 version

Red, I have been in similar situations twice before. Both times unable to find, after extensive searching with flashlights in the dark well into the night. Both times had to call it, go back out next day to find predators found my deer first. That's the breaks sometimes. I have never been in a...

Live from the tree 2017 version

Nice job finding that deer & filling that tag. I have only ever hunted WI &ND. I have always wondered how you Southern hunters deal with the heat with respect to meat preservation. How long can a kill, that hasn't been field dressed, go in warm temps like your talking about before it's too late?

Thanks for clarifying that...I didn't catch that two different straps were Frankensteined here. Can you also provide link for the Erikson over center buckle.

Does either end of the strap come completely off so you just have the strap.... allowing you to feed the strap through a narrow eyelit and than back onto the hardware part of the strap (that you initially removed)?

Justsomedude, did that strap come like that or did you have to mod/sew on the hooked end? Please provide the link at Strapworks. Thanks.

    Steppladder Platform Board DIY

I bet Jim is proud of you. I can't wait to see your platform...and will probably be in for several.

    3 stepp ladders = 21 feet?

Placing an aider on a stepp ladder has a tendency "unbalance" the Stepps ...the two "tooth's" of the Stepps loose contact with the tree and only the "v" of the Stepps remains in contact. This scenerio occurs unless you have locked the Stepps on rock solid tight, which isn't always possible due...

Introducing the 2017 Aero Hunter Kestrel

I haven’t seen this much excitement about a new piece of hunting gear since Ralphie finally got his Red Ryder BB gun. Looking forward to objective reviews of the Kestrel detailing the following aspects: (i) Comfort for at least a 6 hour set; (ii) Back band adjustment. Periodic tinkering with...

    WildEdge SteppLadder

Congratulations on your growing family! I have some of Jim's original Stepps and your mention of the new rope (amsteel) caught my attention. I just checked your website which still shows the polypropylene replacement ropes. When will the new amsteel replacement ropes be available?...cost...

    Peeps

I ditched the peep years ago and use an Anchor Sight (https://archeryinnovations.com/). No/low light not an issue anymore and it auto corrects my form on akward leaning out shots.

    Ropeman

Because the ropeman allows the one hand convenience. The prussic is not loaded so you don' t have to mess with it. It only loads if the ropeman fails or otherwise shears the rope...an unlikely event but I figure what's the harm and I doubt Wildcountry's testing involved using the ropeman...

    Safe climbing

I'm teaching my 13 yo too. I have him climb twice: once to set up the muddy sticks and base; and the second time with a Web worn over a rc harness with lineman belt. In both climbs he uses both the linemans rope with ropeman 1 and the tether rope with two carabiners, two prusiks and one ropeman...

    Ropeman

I don't think it's necessary as I think the purpose of the cable is merely an attachment point for carrying on a rock climb harness. You can also leave the prusik attached to the ropeman carabiner and to the tether above the ropeman. I've been teaching my 13 year old how to use the Web and that...
