2024 Off-Season Getting/Staying In Shape Motivation Thread

Today got away from me with soccer and kid stuff, then made a lot of excuses this evening but turned it around at about 10:45 and squeezed in 6.5 miles before midnight. Well technically by like 12:01 but I'm counting it for Saturday even if my watch isn't lol. Don't let the excuses win fellas, we got this.

Wife and I made use of the time between our sons track events yesterday and walked 6 miles worth of a 1/2 mile loop near the school we were at.

If I Would have known that track meets last 10 hours, I never would have let my son quit baseball, or would have made him play tennis or something.

So I hadn't had a formal workout in a week due to being out of town. I had done some walking, but nowhere near the intensity of my normal workout.

I got back today and did a weight work out. I was able to go up a bit in my dead lift, but bench suffered a bit. Surprisingly, I'm actually down a few pounds from 2 weeks ago.

The wife and I went out for dinner tonight though and I undid any good I did from the exercise.

I'm a little disappointed in today's run. Served it's purpose and hopefully got my week off on that right excerise foot. Both car and pedestrian traffic were a slight issue today, .97 in 8'48" today, so pretty avg. Hopefully I'll get some walking miles in today too, just for good measure

Just dragged myself through 5 more on the treadmill tonight. Felt pretty flat energy wise but after the kayaking yesterday and a full day of being on my feet and in "customer service mode" which is always pretty draining for me, I'm happy with it. Going to likely be a lot of treadmill miles for me this week with life/kid stuff but it is what it is, gotta build the wall one brick at a time...

Circuit gig with a different guy at the gym. The , uh, um. Not sure how to be nice here but they won't see so screw it. The very friendly older ladies (+ one husband I think) that b let me join their group today made me look like a complete wimp :tearsofjoy: good butt kicking!! 100%going to feelthat everywhere tomorrow lol

I guess my guy hurt his back squatting today. Hope he's OK

10 hours of yard work Sunday, road bike ride yesterday, early morning lift session today at the Y, tomorrow is an off day. Have been reasonably good with this 3 on/1 off cadence since December. I substituted digging a trench/lawn reseeding for my run on Sunday. The cadence is run/swim/bike, lift, run/swim bike, off day, rinse and repeat 4 day cycle. Several times I’ll miss a day, but I’ve always exercised at least 4 days a week, and hit 2 cardio + 1 weight day a week. I’m going to try to ramp the running over 3 miles, back seems strong now. Key is for me to lay out the days every Sunday depending on the weather and work schedule, and lay out the clothes/workout bag the night before i go to bed. Now i need to get a new sight for my bow, get some arrows built, and start shooting again.

Easing into interval training and had a break in work this AM so I just got back from 15 min/1.5 mile warmup then 4x 1/2 mile at 7:41-7:22 pace, followed each with a minute walk and a minute jog, then 15 min cooldown.

@GreginPA I think I need (want) a running book instead of making up my own plans and am guessing you might have some ideas, don't think I've asked this before?... Pfitzinger, Daniel's, Hanson or something else? I'm leaning pfitz and doing 18/55 for when my marathon buildup actually starts in june, but started reading a lot about Daniel Q2 plan last night...

Anyone felt with pain from your sciatic nerve when running or walking? A few years back when I was training for the triathlon I started having pain and was told it was from the sciatic nerve. I haven’t worked out in probably 8-10 years every time I walk or run it starts hurting in the same place. Any pointers other than see a Dr. he wasn’t much help last time other than stretch and rest. 10 years is a long rest.

I stumbled onto this yesterday. Guy might be full of it, I don't know but buy in is pretty cheap so I plan on trying it out. Has some other interesting videos too.

@Horn thanks for posting that. Not sure if that will help my situation but my wife has had Sciatic issues for years and for the last 6-8 months has been dealing with achilles and plantar issues. Already sent her a link to this.
