I just got a bunch of ameristeps and was wondering what y'all do with the straps. I have to cut the straps to get the step off but there's lots of material left. Do you save and use for other things? What are the buckles good for?

I used used one with a boat buckle for my cranford steps. Its quality webbing, so I kept it for a future project.

Leave one intact and thread 3 more on the strap.
I like using the original strap and hook with the overcenter buckle

Something to think about, those old straps and steps have not been manufactured for many years now.... they are not new. Everything has a shelf life so be careful using them and inspect them good. As for me I replace my hook strap every single year with new ones from Strapworks as they are pretty cheap and abuse my gear pretty hard over the course of a season.

Good to know Dave. I'm just excited to have so many platforms to tinker with this year.
Have these and stepps. Gotta build one with the XOP seat and find out which works best for me.
I have a set of the short leverage sticks and was thinking about trying it with one of those. Might have to start another thread but I don't think I need to reinforce it since the beam is angled towards the center

What Dave said is good advice. I didn't cut my straps, I carefully cut the threads holding the step in place so that I didn't damage the strap so that I could still use the strap. If you do this with all your steps you will have a few replacement straps when it starts to wear.

Based on what i got from strap works and what the ameristeps came with, the ameristeps have a superior strap. Maybe i ordered the wrong strap from strap works, dont know.

I've used the ameristep straps for lots of things. They're pretty solid.

I bought 1" tie down and had them sew a loop on each end for a fixed bridge. The tag says Tie Down and boat buckle with a logo. The ameristep strap appears to be 1.125" strap and different weave.

I am pretty familiar with the Ameristraps - I cut mine off though - I like the strapwork straps I mentioned above much better - and like I said I replace them every year - might find that hard to do with Ameristep straps?

I have cranford steps on them and don't use them, so they are mint condition. :D

Thanks! Just ordered 5' Poly Camo Flat buckle coated with rounded corners. Guess I will just cut off the Cam buckle and use the Over Center Buckles I have (which are 1").

Learning how to navigate the products on Strapworks opens up lots of possibilities.

The straps I order are 1 and 1.5 inch camo polyester straps with a flat hook on them. http://www.strapworks.com/product_p/pewut1.htm

Hey get a green or brown sock, cut the toes off and then have it on your camover buckle..... you can pull it back and out of the way so you can cam it over and then cover all that reflective shine when its secure :)

This buckle is bigger but it locks and you can't kick it open. I know that is unlikely anyway but I like it.

I have some elastic that could make a nice buckle cover. It has some generic microsuede on the sides
