Amsteel bridge question

Is anyone subbing amsteel or a smaller DIA rope for their linesmans belt? The bulk of my setup seems to be coming from my linesmans belt using 11mm yale bandit.

Question: For a 24" bridge how much amsteel do I want to order if I splice the eyes?

I don't think amsteel is good for this. You would have to do a whoopie sling, which isn't practical, plus the amsteel has no sheath to protect it from the constant wear from the bark.

I am using 9mm samson ultra tech and it is a huge improvement bulkwise for the lineman's belt.

Agree with @redsquirrel - Amsteel not great for Lineman belt.

As far as ordering Amsteel. Go ahead and get 20'. You'll find uses for it.

But here's the math for a 24" Bridge. You need about 4' of rope to begin with:
24" - Bridge
6" - loops (3" x2)
16"-20" - bury (8"-10" x2)

I use the ropeman with 9mm cord. Works very well.

You want Amsteel Blue in whatever diameter you choose. 1/4" is plenty for a bridge. But bigger is fine too.

I'm using 9mm Static Bluewater line with a Ropeman 1 for my Linesman's belt. With that setup you can also use it as a second tether.

Justsomedude - When you say second tether, is it still in the lineman configuration, just looser as back up to the main tether? Please explain or better yet a pick. I like the safety of a second tether.

Hey... can you use the ropeman with the 9mm cord? The specs for the ropeman say 10-13mm.
You'll see there are guys using it, but not officially. I'm using the kong duck on my 9mm. The ropeman2 is rated down to 8mm but it has aggressive teeth so you need to have a firm sheath on the rope. It will rip the ultratech up.

I started keeping a carabiner on both ends of my Lineman's belt so I can unclip it and quickly set it as a tether. If I need to adjust my main tether or pass a branch when climbing, I'd much rather be clipped in than just leaning on a linesman belt.

IN A PINCH you can just clip your lineman's belt to itself and be attached to the tree. But read the thread on Carabiner Side Loading. And you want a locking biner...and a single lineman's attachment point isn't meant to a fall arrest.....

There are a few items that can perform multiple jobs. That's what you want in anything that you have to carry around.
