Sending her up that tree no harness is rage inducing.Just 15'. No big deal..
Couple urges hunting safety after woman falls nearly 15 feet out of tree
Leah was climbing a tree to reach a tree stand, when she slipped and fell nearly 15 feet, landing on a crossbow.www.10tv.com
And to think we argue around HERE (where everyone is strapped in at all times no matter how you slice it) about who is too safe or not safe enough…Sending her up that tree no harness is rage inducing.
More than his lady friend. She's the mother of his daughter. Stupidity. And to think we argue around HERE (where everyone is strapped in at all times no matter how you slice it) about who is too safe or not safe enough…
This one makes me madder’n hell. I’m all for personal liberties but if you’re that boyfriend taking her hunting, it ain’t your life to take liberty with, so you put that safety harness on her yourself and make sure there’s a friggin rope from the ground to the top. Otherwise get out the pop up blind and get cozy. It ain’t that hard.
Of course this happened in C-Bus. There’s only a giant Cabela’s, Richard’s Sporting Goods, REI, Walmart right there; absolutely no way to buy an extra HSS for the lady friend.
And saddlebro companies are adding these people to their sponsored pro staff, giving them all kinds of free gear that we safety-conscious, “serious” deer hunters waste away trying to afford and learn to use properly, send them into the woods with it without any form of instruction or practical guidance, and boost them virally as “influencers”. I’m sure Kaitlyn Maus (just watched her husband hunt from an Tethrd saddle with an unlocked carabiner and the gate facing the tree and a RM1 on 8mm rope, probably fresh out of the Tethrd showroom), and some of these others are nice ppl who enjoy hunting, but they are really influencing people to be idiots with their gear.I think one of the issues is that for many, if not the majority of people who go out and hunt deer every year, the overwhelming bulk of those folks are casual, recreational hunters. By this I mean they do not spend much time on forums dedicated to hunting and subsequently do not get saturated with the message of using some form of safety system. They don't live and breathe deer hunting. Take my cousin for example. In his opinion, he thinks of himself as a deer hunter. This is not a criticism, but I doubt he gives deer two thoughts until the second week in November starts approaching. Yesterday was the general rifle opener here. I heard the was going out to hunt yesterday from another family member. I would put good money that he does not have a safety harness. I would be surprised if he could put his hands on an orange vest and his shells without searching in several closets. I think hunting is just a casual thing for many people. It's not part of their daily lives and interest and when the day comes, they grab what they can last minute and run out to the woods and fall safety is item #27 on their list until something goes wrong.
I know this because growing up this is how I and everyone else I knew was. We didn't put much if any thought into safety. We just grabbed our gun and headed out to the tree stand.
I'm going to take one of my safety vests and give it to my cousin. Whether he will actually use it or toss it is anyone's guess.
But the unintelligent, or underinformed, ARE the influencers. That’s all I’m saying, hyperbolic as I am.Sucks that woman in OH fell, that's horrible so don't get me wrong here. It's possible she refused a safety harness too, not just that her man should have put her helpless self in a harness. I didn't see anything about that. Just saying.
I know I'll get in trouble here but I think it's an intelligence issue, not an influencer issue. We're not smart enough to make our own decisions? Or determine the quality of information ? That says a lot more about the sheep than the dip stick on the internet, doesn't it?
Rant over I'm going to take my rifle for a long walk now
Yeah....its this....same kinds showed everyone what à saddle shouldnt be.and said it should...showed gear you shouldnt use .....thats how ignorance becomes common knowlage to the masses.if boarn ignorant into a world of ignorance...ignorance is all you know.and when someone says something informed the whole ignorant world thinks he is crazyBut the unintelligent, or underinformed, ARE the influencers. That’s all I’m saying, hyperbolic as I am.
Some how i live.......with a room température IQ....makes me wounder......every thing every one else does i have to do drunk so.....whats thier problemI'm not sure it is an intelligence or problem-solving issue, more of an ignorance issue. By ignorance I don't mean that in a bad way. The smartest, most educated person on Earth is still going to be ignorant about many more things than they have knowledge of.
Think about people you know in daily life, friends, coworkers, etc who have zero experience hunting. Now imagine that someone who goes hunting two or three days a year invites several of these folks out to hunt for the first time and they accept. What sort of elevated hunting safety, gun safety, and general knowledge will the group likely have? This may be a group of brain surgeons or astrophysicists, but one of them may well end up in the emergency room.
I think anyone with an IQ over about 100 has the ability to make most decisions for themselves but they have to actively participate in the process.
Well said. In @tailgunner language anyway. LolSome how i live.......with a room température IQ....makes me wounder......every thing every one else does i have to do drunk so.....whats thier problem
I’m one of those guys who has stayed attached since day 1. Not because I’m special or hyper intelligent. Just because it seemed like a good idea. The harness that came with my stand WAS trash but I promptly went out and bought a comfy HSS because there was no way that using a stand without one sounded remotely intelligent. It seems to be an unfortunate evolution most hunters experience. I don't think I read of one guy on here who said yep. I have worn a safety harness and been 100% tied off since the first time I climbed a tree. If you have congratulations. You are few and far between.
Every tree stand now comes with a harness. But you cant make people put it on. It's just human nature. There is lots of info and stats to prove all kinds of things are bad for you. But yet we don't listen. Maybe because there is so much of it we become immune or just tired of people telling us what you need to do this to be safe. But you can also note there is that one person who did everything safe and correct and still died or got hurt. Or just had a heart attack walking to his stand. My daughter's hunter safety class covered some tree stand safety. Not enough but some. Which is more than I had 30 years ago when I went thru.
I like to think us talking about it some how will help or stop someone from getting hurt. But worried we are just another warning on the box.
Man I really hope so. Kinda one of those things you hope your wrong about. Pride and arrogance sure can get in the way.I’m one of those guys who has stayed attached since day 1. I’d have to guess guys like me are more common than you suggest.
