I have pistol hunted from a saddle. It is not my primary weapon, normally. Using the tree or a shooting sling as a rest works very well.

I have yet to score on a buck with the pistol from the saddle but I'm going to keep trying. I typically hunt with the pistol during the second week of Michigan's gun season when I move back into the thick stuff and my range is limited to bow type distances. The saddle bridge and tether make a nice rest.

Mike, a saddle is a great platform for a handgun hunter. Be observant of where your cylinder gap is located vs tether or bridge if shooting a revolver. Same goes for trees. Finding a stable shooting position isn’t a problem.

Yes, I shoot a T/C Contender, Savage Striker, Long Slide 10mm and SRH out of mine. It's a great option since you always have a rest.

I have pistol hunted extensively for large and small game. Revolvers, Ruger MKIII, Glock 20SF, and most recently (last three years) 8.3" 300 Blackout pistol suppressed. I have great success filling the freezer by using bow hunting techniques with the Blkout. This year I'm trading my lock-on for a Kite.

i have done it a few times, but have yet to connect. For whatever reason, I have only seen deer when I had my rifle or bow with me.

Personally I think the saddle is perfect for a pistol. You hide behind the tree easier and there truly are no dead zones!

For you guys hunting with an autoloader pistol, how are you securing the pistol when it's not in your hands? I want to avoid using a traditional holster so I can use my can. :grinning:

I don't hunt with an autoloader but a 10" Contender isn't all that much bigger and a chest holster works well

That's a nice retro set up with there with the hard open Contender and a can. What caliber is it? Those 2x Leupolds are good hunting scopes too. I tagged my biggest deer using the same scope and often thought, had I been using a higher mag/smaller FOV may not have pulled off the shot

That 30-30 barrel loaded with 125 grain NBT will hammer deer. 35 Remington is probably the best contender barrel for factory ammo on deer.
