Best Pack for Saddle Hunting

Well some of each actually. I have my Mystery Ranch Pinter for packing so I thought I’d get a more simple day pack for close to home hunts. The Pinter is what I take for out west hunts. I’m in Northern MN close to home for bow season. I do like the MR pop up 18 though!
Where in northern MN?

I used a Mystety ranch treehouse this year it worked ok carrying my beast sticks and predator platform..I have kifaru shaped charged on order for this season.....someone really really needs to design a pack specifically for saddle hunting with its popularity at an all time high they’d sell a zillion of them.

I thought about going with the shaped charge as well but it’s so similar to the MR treehouse. I’ve also been eyeing the eastern ruck. What made you leave the treehouse for the shaped charge? Customization?

I actually thought that would be a great project for a small business start up...couldn't agree more lots of options nothing fits all styles of saddle hunting...!

15 lbs.... 4 helium sticks diy platform Alps Outdoor Z Pursuit (70.00). Not happy with the stick attachment yet... but I think after watching boyne bowhunter's one stick climbing video the other day, this year it will only be one stick bringing total weight down to around 7 lbs....

The Mystery Ranch 28 and Pinter look slick, i cant get myself to drop that kind of cash on a pack though. I run a cheap $30 fieldline for 15 years that holds my wheelchair footrest platform inside and my 24" sticks strap pretty well to the outside. I am planning my first CO Elk hunt this fall though so i'm going to need something more substantial for that, but have been looking at buying a Military Molle II pack for $50. Heavier then most but they are 5k cubic inches and can support 200lbs. Probably overkill for my typical midwest deer hunts but should work well for elk when/if it comes time to pack out.

If there’s any way you can swing it financially I would try and buy a small bag that you can use to pack out meat like the pop-up 18 or 28. It’s nice to have a sleek pack while hunting, but then have the ability to pack out immediately after I kill. I’ve use my mystery ranch Pintler for five mule deer now, and it works great.

I'm told if there is one place not to go cheap for my mountain hunt, its boots. I'm going to heed that advice and not wear my Lacross Alpha burleys to hike thru the mountains. Whatever pack i get will have to be a cheapie for now

Gotchya. I grew up in hinckley. Your more north than me haha

Hinckley is nowhere near northern mn! It's all but metro area. I'd put Bemidji around the southernish portion of northern mn.

The mystery ranch packs look great. Im using a badlands ascent which is fine for my purposes

The ideal pack will depend a lot on personal priorities, climbing method, hunting location, and whether you need it to haul meat.

This mossy oak pegtooth daypack has been my favorite pack. It's light and just the perfect size for my saddle hunting needs. It fits my modified hawk heliums perfectly. Right side pocket has my Doyle's gear hoist (I don't even have to open it to access/utilize it). Left side pocket holds my range finder, TP, and wind indicator. Middle pocket holds my binos. Top exterior pocket holds my headlamp, bow release, and gear rope with cliptor. Inner top mesh pocket holds my grunt call and battery pack. Then I throw my predator platform in the main compartment and my saddle when I don't want to wear it in. I seriously love this pack. Great price too! 1FB5DAA3-BB71-4BF7-BC09-B2305863CDD3.pngF861DC8B-8405-46C6-87F1-8A69CF7FC006.png

I use a Kifaru tactical frame with 22 mag bag. It works awesome. I strap both the sticks and my podium on the outside of the bag and cinch everything down. Put my saddle, extra clothes and gear in the bag. When I get meat on the ground, I deploy the meat shelf for a one trip and done load. It’s a heck of a load but, I go in 3-4 one way sometimes and it’s best to bring it all out in one load.

I love my Eberlestock X2. I almost lost it yesterday, I leaned it up against a tree while I was setting up a camera. When I turned around I was gone, well not really just blended in so good I didn't see it at first. A lot of guy's have a hard time fitting it but it fits me like a glove. I don't pack a lot of sticks just one or my LWHC seat, rappelling rope and the regular shtuff. :0)

I don't have much experience backpacks I had a climbing tree stand forever. So would carry my climbing tree stand on back and used a hunting fanny pack to store hunting stuff. I bought a trophyline C.A.Y.S backpack it has a lot of nice features. But without a frame it made my sour. I looked alot of backpack reviews on saddlehunter.com
And YouTube and bought the mystery ranch pop up 28 . I just it used today I felt no strain on back at all. I know am stating the obvious but a backpack with frame makes a huge difference. I can quarter out a deer 80lbs which makes you really mobile in my opinion.
Today used my ghillie spot stalk but mostly scouting. I don't how well it packs my mini beast stick.

A Mystery Ranch Scree is 32 liters, adjustable internal frame/yoke (this is really important for my comfort), under 200 bucks, lightweight, and available in earth tones. The only mods I made were bungee cords on the outside to hold my platform and I cut off the metal zipper pull tabs and replaced with paracord to make it quieter.

It's the perfect size for me for all day hunts and will fit my layers if in a compression sack.

I'd consider looking at packs not made explicitly for hunting or tactical use because it opens up your choices (and probably saves serious cash). The Scree is a day hiker or maybe 1 night ultralight bag. There are similar packs by Mystery Ranch that are slightly smaller.

EDIT: Just looked, and they made cosmetic changes to the Scree recently and now last year's model is available online for less than 150 bucks. One of several links found by just googling the name.

99% of the places I get to hunt don't allow u to pack out your animals so just keep that in mind.... I've jumped between back pack to fanny pack 100 times and came to the conclusion that I really didn't like either. I built my system based on a vest because that's what suits my gear and hunting style but if I was to go back to pack I would get a shoulder bag like the 1 3rivers sells, military surplus messengers bag, or crosspac. If I was able to pack out every hunt I take my alice pack
