Bow Practice Time

I did a little of everything last night. 10, 20, 25, 33 with the recurves then 40, 50, 60, 70 with the wheels.

It is funny you say this. I have shot the compound at a target 2x in 2 years and have not hunted with it in the past 2 years. I do enjoy the longbow a lot. Although I have cut my lethal distance in half, I cannot put it down. (Even though my wife got a nice 9 point buck last year and I got nada...) I still enjoyed every hunt and every time I started to draw, my heart still raced a million miles per hour!

For me nothing compares to a trad kill. It has probably been about 6 years since I 1st hunted with one and I haven't put it down until last year. I picked up a gun for a hunt because I got so frustrated with it, I just needed to get an easy one. I've killed a few with the stick and that's what i enjoy but I'm not gonna not be a purest any more. I don't see me ever hunting with a compound again but I'll make a few hunts with the gun. I like building them and shooting. It's nice to kill a deer with something you've put together. Gonna get into reloading soon and precision shooting.

My uncle reloads and makes a lot of custom hand loads... i was asking him how much he invested into his reloading bench/workshop and he just laughed and said "You know I stopped counting after the first couple grand..."

Damn hobbies always so expensive!

Trad bows are expensive too. Making arrows and strings. It all adds up. I already have a reloading press. Been doing pistol ammo for a while so I got the majority of the stuff already.
I'm a tinkerer. lol never satisfied.

Last year for fun I bought a plain jane compound bow and have been shooting it with nothing but an arrow rest. Bare bones and it is so much fun to shoot in the yard! Gonna be a while before I get consistent enough to trade my tricked out one for mr bare bones

I know what you mean. I have taken a few hogs and other critters but not a white tail... yet! I am going to get the big buck this year though. Even the critters get you going when all goes right. (In full disclosure, I was not trying for a headshot on the opossum)

What do you have stuffed in that supersack behind your deer target?

I get the bag and the non-woven plastic from an Intex plastics company here in town. It comes in scrap rolls 3.5'x forever depending on how much scrap.

Getting Closer - that is a perfect sized hog. Good job, I know those suckers are seemingly always moving when I've hunted them.

Thank you. They are a lot of fun to shoot but harder to track than deer as they do not bleed as much.

Especially without a pass thru. The expression "bled like a stuck hog", not sure what that meant. Must have been made in a slaughter house slitting their throats.

I shoot my recurves 3-4 times each week all year round and practice out to 50 yds, even though my self-imposed max distance on deer is 25 yds. When I look back, that covered most of the shots that I ever took back in my compound days. Practice at longer distances and those closer shots will seem much easier.

Anyone else do this all the time? I just got new strings put on so I wanted to shoot a few grips. I hate wrecking arrows but when trying to get a group going for a minor adjustment I end up with this. This makes arrow number four junked this weekend. It actually cut the fletching and sliced the arrow and stuck into it.

Good thing it's only a practice tip on this one.

That's why I shoot at tape lines that are level parallel and up and down perpendicular.
Change something on my bow, I shoot the level parallel duct tape to check yardage and the perpendicular duct tape for left and right. Shoot anywhere along the tape, just don't shoot at the same spot. Saves money on arroids this way.

That's a good idea. I don't try to do grouping unless I change something. But just like the one I posted I needed to adjust so there goes another one. I still have my 50 yard pin to set and I'm dreading it. I'll try your idea and see where it leaves me. I'm sure I'll still talk myself into trying to group a set of three shots just to check and I'll probably loose another one or two. Good thing I shoot the cheapoes.
