Deer Hunting Podcasts

Did a good amount of driving this weekend, and listened to several hunting-related podcasts.

Big Buck Registry #249 gets into "tracking" as a technique which is not saddle-related in any way but the guest is interesting and the stories are good. BBR sets the bar IMO as one of the best deer-hunting related podcasts out there. There is some commercial content you can FF through and the "rapid fire questions" are basically stolen from Tim Ferris but this is still a really good podcast.

Wired 2 Hunt #212 is about wolves and coyotes. It's a long one, over 2 hours, and in the end all I got out of it was Kenyon doesn't want people to shoot coyotes (I think). The conversation in the 2nd half with Carter Neimeyer was more interesting to me than the 1st half.

Joe Rogan had Cam Hanes on again. Not much new or interesting here, Rogan is a superhero in multiple areas and Cam is a superhero of bowhunting and Instagram and together these superbros relive their recent superhunt in Hawaii and again make the case for hunting. Good stuff for converting clueless vegans but nothing groundbreaking.

there are some great pod casts out there forsure I listen a good amount in the gym on the treadmill

Edit: I didn't realize til after I posted that this post was on page 3 and a few months old. Nothing I said wasn't said already

I get a lot of podcast time at work. I skip right by the JRE with Cam Haines though. They go on and on and on about vegans and anti-hunters. I can't take it. I want to hear stories and tactics.

I really enjoy the Saddle Hunter podcast. I recommend it if you haven't tuned in yet. Also The Hunting Public, Hunting Beast, wired to Hunt, BBR, Randy Newberg, Strutzone, Primos, Backcountry Hunters and Anglers, Deer Hunter and a few more. I just found a podcast channel called Sportsmen's Nation that shares multiple podcast like Nine Finger Chronicles and Land & Legacy. Liking it so far, it is a good idea for podcast to merge like that so if you follow one you'll discover the rest.

So much of that went right over my head. Going to need to relisten when I get closer to purchasing land

haha yep

"cost basis" is what I got out of it.

What would have been more valuable (but probably varies by state) is tax impact of land assessed as agriculture. Vague memories floating around my head say 50% of the land needs to be used for ag to get a tax discount, but again this is probably a variable. It's interesting for sure as I get closer to "golden years" and thinking about getting into full-time deer-hunting.

Damn good list of podcast. I listen to most and would also like to add beyond the kill which is part of the journal of mountain hunting out of Canada. Mostly western based but I dig it. I also like the by land podcast with Emory since he is a hunter and through hikers he has a different perspective and gets some cool guests on with interesting adventures.

Thanks for the suggestions. I added Beyond the Kill to the main list. The other one sounds cool but I want to keep the list focused on pod mainly about deer and/or saddle hunting. Please feel free to post up when Emory does a deep dive on hunting!

Two more that are pretty good:

Andy just started bowhunting this year, so good hunting content, along with some good general stuff: Former Seal, he has been on the Joe Rogan and Jocko podcasts as well. Rogan has a lot of hunters on his show, so some episodes might be relevant.

And, Kifarucast is usually pretty entertaining as well as informative. Sorta archery/gear/western hunting, but still great info. Aron is pretty unfiltered here vs when he was on gritty.

Did he ever mention what his beef with Kuiu was? I feel like he was biting his tongue on it when he was on the Gritty Bowmen.

There are a lot of really good podcasts on this list! A few others I enjoy are Down South Hunting, Deer University, Rookie Hunter, and Interviews With The Hunting Masters. The Rookie Hunter guys are out of B.C., Canada, but they make me feel like I'm not the only guy in the woods that has no idea what the heck he's doing.

Thanks, I added those to the list on pg 1.
