DIY bow vise and bow press?!

Can u post pics of the limb fingers
If you google synum portable press there are about 500 photos of the fingers from all angles, they are bent steel with rubber over the fingers. If you are still needing some detail after looking at what is up on google I will take some when I get home

I have the Synum portable press as my home "press" and for my purposes of pressing one bow and changing strings, cam syncting, rest timing, silencers etc it has been phenomenal. It is approved by my manufacturer for pressing my bow and is a LOT less sketchy than the bowmaster. Would love to get an EZ green some day but for now it is sufficient.

I would like to hear more about how @raisins uses a stablilzer to hold the bow in his bike clamp. I also have amazon bike service clamp as my vice and I can't picture what you are describing but I am intrigued

hey, i have an old stabilizer that is probably about as big around as a golf ball

i orient the "grabbie" part of the vice so that it is trying to grab something horizontal

i then just slide the stab into that grabbie and tighten it down

thats honestly a great idea wow.

You could use a 5/16-24 bolt if you don't have an extra stabilizer/don't want to buy one just for this purpose, which gets me wondering if anyone out there makes diy stabilizers but that's a different thread entirely

I have a bowmaster I’ve used for a while. If I pressed a bow more than once or twice a season I’d get something better. I’ve almost purchased the synunm more than once. The packable ez green is really the best option all around IMO. I use a mountain bike stand/vise to hold bow and I have no complaints with that choice. I just don’t trust myself to diy a quality bow press.

the vice jaw won't clamp down on something that thin, so you'd have to embed the bolt in a dowel or something.....but if it wasn't center then it would be harder to exploit the ability to smoothly rotate the stab within the vice to gain an extra axis of rotation and adjustment

I set my second axis using an old stabilizer today in my bike vice! Great tip

I've used the synunm for years and love it! Unfortunately I just recently bought a Mathews from a forum member and don't have quite the confidence in the finger shape to safety press said bow. Currently in the process of putting together all the parts to weld up my own press.

I've done it with a 3D printer with pretty good success: https://saddlehunter.com/community/index.php?threads/diy-3d-printed-stabilizer.39460/
