EZ Kut Drill

I’m going to drill a few this weekend. I’ve drilled a few test holes with the hand drill. So far so good.

Do you guys hang them stock or do you dip them in something?

and did you guys buy the hand drill right from them? this one https://ezkutproducts.com/product/ez-kut-hand-drill/ just making sure

I bought right from them.
I dipped in flex seal, but it didn’t hold at all.
I have heard some guys dip in plastidip and it does okay.

I have been meaning to order these shrink tubes for a while, but other stuff keeps popping up that’s more important than the hunting budget :-(

thank you for the reply! Is the dip to prevent slipping or preserve?

The dip is for several things.
It reduces metal on metal noise drastically, reduces shine that a deer might see, increases traction for your foot, and if placed correctly it can easily let you know if the step is inserted fully.

I drilled a full depth hole with the bit, then insert each bolt in and run a permanent marker all the way around. The dip (or shrink tube) goes just up to the line. That way, if I see any bare metal, I know the bolt isn’t inserted fully and may not be safe to step on.

I used the actual plastidip dip, not the spray but that stuff is expensive. Its holding up pretty good so far but has separated on a few bolts. Never tried shrink wrap but I think that would be a good alternative too.

I can second that flex seal does NOT work well for this. I heard bed liner stuff may work better. I didn’t want to spend that much money to test the theory though.

Also are guys roughing the bolts up really good before dipping them so it sticks better?

I wash my bolts with soap first to get any oil off. The plasti dip works pretty well but it does get squeeky with wet boots. I prepped a few trees today and I just used bare bolts. KISS is my new moto.

My only complaint with bare bolts is the “tink, tink, tink” of pulling them out of the dump pouch.

I use a $1 nail apron from Home Depot. It has two pockets and I divide the bolts amongst the two and just swinging over my shoulder like a mail pouch. This way the bolts are laying down and as I remove a bolt they don't fall side to side tinking into each other

I use a belt that is designed for holding rifle rounds. (there's a name for it but I can't spell it) I sling it over my shoulder like a mail bag. Holds about 26 bolts.

How would using the hand drill compare to using a cranford screw in step, I love using cranford a and go up quick with them but I don’t run and gun with them they are pre set only I could see bolts being a different story though.
