Final version of my short stick

These are awesome. I’ve been thinking about doing the same for a while but always assumed the platform would get in the way. Putting the platform at the top of the stick would help for sure but I just can’t believe you can get it tight enough to the tree that it won’t pull off without a ocb. But I use a larger platform maybe it generates too much leverage.

@Crowbar hooked me up with some 1” scrap tube and @always89y sold me some super fair priced standoffs. Been thinking about this one for a while just haven’t pieced it together yet. I still need to decide what method of tree attachment as well as what type of aider. I haven’t really one sticked before but I feel like if I can get it down with this I’d be sold. If one sticking fails then it’ll still make a great platform. The scout felt great with my lone wolf sticks but man did that inch/inch and a quarter longer standoff ever make a difference. It allowed me to put the sole of my feet dead center without bowing them out in a V to the sides. Thought I’d share!

If u already did than disregard......id put a bushing in the tubing on your bottom step standoff bolt....I'd be concerned having the standoff directly in line with that hole....

Yea I wasn’t a huge fan of that hole being there either. I just threw the stuff together tonight scraps and all. Do they make a 1/4” bushing that would fit snug internal to the tube?

Possible....may have to get 1 and cut and file to fit depending on the tubing

I'd still keep an eye on it.....maybe better to shorten and cut that hole out all together

I have another piece of scrap I can use. I just wanted to see if I could freehand the holes enough to get them lined up.

How does it do when you put side pressure on it like if you had to shoot behind the tree? Does it want to kick out at all? Been tempted to try something similar but don’t want to hack away if it’s going to kick out.
So, I've been playing with this a lot. I'm actually pretty surprised how well it bites. I've stood on it, behind it, on each side and behind each side, trying to get it to break away from the tree. I must have accidentally hit the sweet spot for the cam cleat. It really doesn't budge.

This looks awesome! It has to be les than 3 lbs. Have you weighed it? Its amazing how well the DanO standoffs grip.
Yea I was impressed with the standoffs. As you can see I was testing this out on a slick 6x6 and it bit down and didn’t budge at all. It took front, back and side pressure. I’m not sure what the weight is.

You guys with more than 2 step aiders... are they short steps or what? I can’t use more than a 2 step when one sticking.

Im the same way. Any more than two 19 inch steps and im out of my effective reach window, except for the first set up.

Does the platform seem to be in the way when standing on the bottom step?
I would really like to see a video or at least a pic of someone standing on the bottom step with the platform on top. I have a DanO stick coming for one sticking and really want to go to the platform on top

I ended up putting together a 3 short stick set. Should be able to reach 18'+ with this setup. Prolly wont use it, but here it is anywho.
3 short sticks, 3/ 2 step aiders and daisychains
Suprisingly heavy at 4.4lbs
Does pack up nice though.
