if you guys are talking ounces, whats the point of the double bottom step? If you've got bad knees I can understand, but if you need something to grab onto with both hands, grab onto the stick with your off hand.

Make your bottom step into a foldable single step with a LW step/allen head stopper and it should save some ounces x4

The foldable gear isn’t much lighter, and I like double steps throughout. I might DIY if his design wasn’t both double..

yeah but this thread seems to be about the lightest possible....perforated tubes and what not. Id lose the bottom double first
And Dans beefy step holder thing +bolt has to weigh more than a simple allen head bolt...not counting deducting half a step

It will be like the Kestrel. A pile of sales with all the hype.
its not their fault...would have been the same thing if Trophyline announced they were returning

I think dans sticks sales will revolve around his website traffic....probably how the kestrel sales revolved around this sites traffic

The only reason I like a double step is if I need to pause climbing for some reason I have a place to stand. Your right I could save a few ounces cutting one side off. Not sure I want to but I will keep it in mind after I see my final weight

Nothing wrong with hype but it sure helps sales. I have a Kestrel and will probably buy those sticks if they are really that light.

save your cash man...you've got some sticks already. don't let the antler cut-outs make you throw money at it. As far as the ounces, drink a redbull

Well. I will be 60 years old in two months. My knees are worn out from pushing several hundred thousand pigs over thirty years - so every pound helps. I would have said the same when I was young strong and had no cash. I guess the sticks might appeal to old folks. Will I buy them. I am not sure though - like you said I don't want to throw money away like I have in the past.... I have some climbing paws... I never use them. I have some Jims steps seldom use them. Several different platforms. I prefer Ameristeps. I usually use muddy pros and aiders. I have lone wolf sticks. And hawk sticks. An aerohunter and a kestrel and a guidos web and a sit drag. I like the guidos and kestrel best.

Yup I don't want to waste any more dough. Oh and I don't drink red bull. With the money I save on Red Bull I will probably buy the sticks. Oh and 213 calories in a Red Bull. If I drink that stuff I will be carrying extra weight to the field in no time. All in fun brother

There is some wisdom in sticking to and perfecting one method. I used to try a lot of different things based upon terrain and type of tree - I have settled on sticks, with a single foot aider and I even incorporated your tether foot loop when I want to go above 18 foot. After three years of scouting, setting up trees and hunting I can now do this blindfolded (i.e. with all but no light). Often whatever moonlight that is available is all I need once I get to my tree. if I use any light at all it is a small red lens headlamp that just barely illuminates 2-3 foot in front of me. I seldom if ever spook deer as I climb.
My experience is the same as Dave's. There are so many ideas on this site. Pick one at a time. Practice it. It will lead to safety, quiet, and speed.
I still like sticks and aiders best too and would like to try the Red squirrel aider this winter, post season after I see a video.
Dan's sticks are not much variation from what I am doing except they are lighter. With an aiders three would be under 6 pounds. Three muddy pro sticks with aiders are almost 10 pounds. Dan's sticks are competitive with spikes - as far as weight goes and easier to set up than multiple Jims Stepps .
Put a cam on it - extra weight and cost and they would be almost perfect for me... but maybe not others.

I agree with the cam mod on Dan’s sticks. Im always looking for new gear. I use spurs but can’t use them everywhere i.e. state land. Unless @bowhunter15 wants to build me a set i will most likely buy a set. X2 on the @redsquirrel aider system but im waiting on the video before I try it out. Im patient right now as I got alot going on but Dan’s sticks have me at this point but i am looking for more details abd a release date!!!

My cousin had Dan on his podcast not that long ago and they were talking about it (Deer Hunter Podcast on iTunes).

I believe the finished sticks are coming in at around 1.5lbs. So less than 10lbs for 4 sticks. Not bad!

Need 5 to get to 20'. WE Stepps with Red Aider is still less weight to get more height.

But 3 with the DaveT1963 wider gets you to 20’ for less than the 6 stepps I need. That’s my plan anyways. The 20’/Kong sticks may be the best solution though.

I would rather have 1.5 pound sticks with aiders than WE steps as much as I like Andrew. I do intend to give WE steps more practice this year to try and change my mind.
Dan's sticks.... I will probably buy, but the sticks I built seem just fine so far or modified like kong sticks may even be better.

Three light sticks with aiders and I will get 21 feet at foot height at least.
