Fourth Arrow Camera Arm Review

I'm using the manfrotto 502ah with a manfrotto ball head leveler. Kinda heavy. Thinking I should remove the ball head leveler and just use the 4th arm shoulder to level but its so sweet to level in 2 seconds. The 502ah is THE SMOOTHEST head I've used to date.

That makes sense. I owned a 500AH for a while which is very similar to the 502AH. It was crazy smooth but it was bulky and heavy. One thing is for certain. You can't go wrong with Manfrotto. I did a review of several heads this winter and Manfrotto heads were the choice hands down.

Have any of you guys disassembled the carbon arm, modified, or cut shorter? Considering chopping a few inches off the second arm. I got all hemmed up on both hunts having to move from one side of the tree to the other.

So tell me if I'm crazy but I'm thinking about buying just the bracket and the shoulder from 4th arrow and building my own arm. Rectangular aluminum tubing, nylon washers and bolts/lock nuts/knobs. Won't be as light as the carbon fiber but can probably build it for $20 + $89 for the shoulder/bracket. Thoughts on this? Anyone know the diameter of the pin that slides into the shoulder?
